Applicants who have an interest in science, horticulture or agriculture and who have a passion for organic/environmentally beneficial approaches to land care are preferred. The technician/manager will be primarily responsible for chemistry and biological soil testing and help manage the L.B.A. center. This job requires a person who is organized, can manage own work schedule, pays close attention to detail, can do some physical work, and who can vigilantly maintain a clean work environment.
General Job Description
Chemical & Biological Soil Testing:
Receive samples and complete log-in and sample preparation.
Perform all sample testing requested by clients, following lab protocol.
Record data in a spreadsheet or database.
QUALITY ASSURANCE & LAB SAFETY
Complete regular Quality Assurance tests for compost, L.B.A. and other products we apply or sell to clients.
Follow the appropriate quality assurance protocol to ensure the integrity of soil testing data.
Ensure all equipment is calibrated and working properly. Record any inconsistencies.
Understand and follow standard lab safety measures and use equipment properly.
The goal is to become a LABORATORY Manager which usually takes 1-2 years
L.B.A. (Liquid Biological Amendment) Center:
Process vermicompost and bark mulch compost, including picking up and storing food for worms, feeding worms, maintaining appropriate compost moisture and temperature, dropping and sifting soil, and transferring vermicompost into totes or bulk bags.
Process L.B.A. and maintain appropriate supplies of L.B.A. for in-house and vendor needs. Maintain a schedule of L.B.A. deliveries and be available to fill delivery tanks.
Ensure that the shop and all compost/L.B. equipment are cleaned regularly and are properly disinfected.
Maintain records of compost and L.B.A. production, and of shop cleaning and disinfection.
Operate machinery like front end loaders and tractors properly and safely.
