Position Location: Washington, DC Reports to: Director of Communications Summary: The Media Relations Manager works closely with the Director of Communications to support a robust and dynamic news presence for the Task Forces work through print, video, online, and all means of communication. This position will be based in Washington, D.C. and will report to the organizations Director of Communications.

The Media Relations Manager plays a critical role in amplifying the Task Forces story, policy campaigns, goals, and objectives through social media and earned media, video, blog posts, and op-eds.

The Media Relations Manager is an expert news writer and editor who will create and edit copy for press releases, social media, opinions, videos, and blogs.

The Media Relations Manager is tasked with positioning the Task Force as an expert media source, fielding media questions, pitching stories to the media, preparing media materials, and organizing occasional press conferences.

The Media Relations Manager will manage the Task Forces rapid response communications.

Primary Responsibilities Writing and editing news copy, talking points, slogans, and media messages for social media, news releases, blogs, video, and interviews. Serving as a media relations specialist with the goal of raising the audience awareness of the Task Forces mission and persuading target audiences to take action. Managing the flow of communications between the Task Force and the press. Positioning Task Force leaders as subject matter experts to the media and influencers.

Managing press lists, tracking press hits, reporting on media audience growth. Serving as project leader in monitoring and evaluating success of media activities, e.g., clipping service and/or in-house capabilities, subscriptions. In partnership with the Director of Communications, creating and implementing media outreach strategies for the Task Forces three signature events: Gala Miami, Creating Change Conference and Winter Party Festival. Liaising with policy staff to establish news production calendar. Managing news video production. Other duties as assigned by Director of Communications.

Qualifications:

Minimum three years media relations experience. Demonstrated success in pitching to reporters, managing interviews, getting stories placed. Experience with rapid response communications in a fast-paced political environment. Strong writing and editing skills in a variety of formats, including press statements, blogs, op eds, social media, media alerts, and video. Detail oriented with ability to work independently. Excellent proven written communications skills. Significant project management skills and experience. Broad range of communications, marketing, and news production skills. Knowledge of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community and its issues nationally and regionally. Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment where commitment to diversity based on race, ethnic origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and physical ability is an important institutional value. Undergraduate degree in communications or related field. Video production experience preferred. Fluency in Spanish language and experience working with Spanish-language media strongly preferred.
