Students working the closing shift must stay until all tasks have been completed.Posting Details Position Information Job Title Student Assistant - Student Center Events Technician General Description This is a student position responsible for technical and audio/visual (A/V) support for all events taking place in the Baker Pattillo Student Center. The tech crew must work with clients, focusing on customer service and meeting any last minute needs for the success of the client’s function. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Baker Pattillo Technology Coordinator.Job Duties

Completes required setups for daily events held in the Baker Pattillo Student Center and adjoining outdoor spaces.

Sets up equipment and prepares for use according to the needs of the event clients according to room diagrams, to include turning on devices and equipment, preparing screens, and loading presentations, music, or video.

Shuts down and turns off equipment after events are over.

Maintains cleanliness in the event spaces, especially in equipment areas and projection/sound booths.

Reports any problems with equipment to the supervisor.

Ensures equipment is fully tested prior to each event.

Cleans and organizes storage rooms; performs cable management as needed.

Ensures equipment is clean and in working order.

Attends periodic training sessions and mandatory staff meetings as assigned.

Assists other crew members with daily testing and maintenance; assists setup crew as needed.

Stays until all tasks have been completed when working the closing shift.

May perform outdoor work in varying environmental conditions including summer heat, winter cold, wind, rain, and/or humidity.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Skill in completing assignments accurately with attention to detail.

Ability to read and follow room diagrams and event resumes.

Ability to understand and follow instructions.

Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.

Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.Preferred Qualifications Experience operating A/V equipment and computers is preferred.Physical Demands Some job functions may require the use of varying levels of physical exertion. Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.Special Conditions for Eligibility A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters.
