Description:The Machinist is responsible for the set-up, layout, and operation turning lathes. The lathes are Mazak and Okuma and run off Gibbs programming. They will be expected to run prototype work and small run production for Aerospace and Medical industries. The parts vary in materials depending on industry and can range from plastics to a variety of metals.50% of the time SET-UP & LAYOUT:
Fitting of all the parts, tools, and machines in support of the machining process
Layout work from blueprints, sketches, and written instructions
Load correct programs to the machine and us G&M codes
Move controls to set cutting speeds and depths, fed rates, and position tools based on the work sketches. Setting GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)
Set proper holding pressure on vises and collets
25% of the time MACHINE OPERATION:
Operate lathe turning machine and perform tool changes as the work in being run
Select and properly load the correct fixtures for the job
Monitor speeds and feeds for the machine
Make modification and move the machine tool according to instructions through a toolpath
Cut away excess material to leave only the finished product.
25% of the time check QUALITY:
Inspection of the parts using instruments such as gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators
Verify documentation
1st shift 6:30am - 3pm (OT is worked after the shift)Additional Skills & Qualifications:MUST HAVE:
2 years years of experience with lathes (mill experience would be a PLUS)
Understanding of G&M codes
Ability to change speed and feeds
Experience with tool changes
Experience machining a variety of different materials
Experience running prototype and small run production
PREFERRED:
Associates / Technical program
Mazak experience
