Inclusive and student centered in our approach, this office adapts to the changing needs of the campus community through innovation, technology and excellence. The Office of Health Promotion and Education works closely with our Student Health Center which is responsible for providing primary health care to the student campus community in a professional, competent caring, and confidential manner. We collaborate with our organizational unit to provide reasonably comprehensive ambulatory medical services to all eligible students; promoting disease prevention through health education; providing non-classroom health education on issues that impact the student both physically and psychologically; provide counseling services with referrals to other psychological professionals when necessary; provide ancillary support services (i.e. laboratory, pharmacy, and administrative); providing advisory, collaborative, and educational assistance to other university departments; and ensuring staff competency to support and fulfill this mission. The goals are to maintain quality of care, client satisfaction, affordability, accessibility, and suitability for operational effectiveness.Primary Purpose of PositionThis position is time-limited, grant-supported; and reports to the Health Educator. The Public Health Coordinator is responsible and accountable for NCCU health education and promotion policies, procedures, and overall program priorities related to STI/HIV prevention. Specifically, this position is dedicated to the ITTS grant with testing program promotion and reporting responsibilities.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Health Education Responsibilities, Competencies, and Sub-competencies as well as Health Education theory and research methods
Knowledge of evidence-based practices for HIV and sexually transmitted infections prevention and risk reduction
Experience with health communications, health education material creation and social media
Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work independently, proactively, and collaboratively
Experience with data collection, analysis and reporting
Fluent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point or other word processing, presentations and data analysis software
Peer education experience and experience working with volunteer committees
Experience and interest in work with diverse groups of people and/or underrepresented groups
Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting
Data entry ability, attention to detail, good motor skills, and interpersonal skills

Coordination of all Integrated Targeted Testing Services (ITTS) education, outreach, and testing events
Work collaboratively with campus partners to provide inclusive education on topics such as Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), HIV, general sex education, and preventive treatment options such as PReP to individuals identified to be at a high risk of contracting HIV
Work closely with our community partner, Durham County Department of Public Health to provide large-scale testing events, participate in community outreach, and acquire additional training as needed
Function Program ManagementDescribe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Manage campus-wide condom and safer sex supply distribution program
Collect project data, prepare, and submit monthly and quarterly reports for the ITTS program and as needed for organizational unit reporting
Serve as co-advisor for Project SAFE to support education efforts related to STI/HIV outreach

Possess a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of Public Health Education
Demonstrate knowledge of methods and techniques of disseminating wellness/health education information to the university’s campus and surrounding community
