Position Title: Substitute Teacher
Reports To: Head of School
Wage: 18.00- $20.00/hour depending on experience
POSITION SUMMARY:
In addition to the qualifications listed below, the ideal Substitute Teacher candidate will be highly effective in using progressive educational strategies such as inquiry-, project-, and place-based, interdisciplinary, and experiential learning. Confidence using multiple intelligence concepts and vocabulary is preferred. The ideal substitute teacher would be able to work with a variety of ages, from preschool- 6th grade. A substitute teaching certificate or Washington State teaching certificate is preferred. If applying to substitute teach in our early childhood program, candidates should be certified through the Department of Children, Youth, and Family services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follow directions from teachers and staff to accomplish classroom goals of the day
Assist in the preparation of the indoor and outdoor learning environments (ex: preparing materials and supplies, cleaning up, properly storing materials in collaboration with the children)
Assist children with activities and transitions
Establish strong daily routines and rhythms for children
Establish effective communications and relationships with students and staff
Help to maintain school policies, regulations, and expectations
Provide effective supervision of students to promote a safe and healthy environment and school experience.
Complete additional facilities and support tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned high school diploma or higher degree, preferably in a field related to education or child development.
Demonstrated the type of language that supports social and emotional development in children.
Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills; ability to effectively communicate and work with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and students.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from different cultures and experiences.
Excellent skills in preparedness, attendance and punctuality.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Faculty members are at all times responsible for the supervision of students in their care during classes and for students generally at all times when on campus or off campus during school activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical requirements are consistent with light physical duties required of teachers generally combined with more strenuous physical duties.
