Windstream is seeking to fill a Sr. Engineer position in the Wholesale Architecture team to guide the innovation and evolution of the Core to Edge routing and switching – developing, enhancing, and launching intelligent data services solutions in the IP and MPLS domains. Windstream is seeking a network Architect to lead the evolution of Windstream’s key existing networks, enabling the newest technology capabilities and lowest cost profiles.The desired candidate would have 7 years working in the development, testing and deployment of new IP routing and switch technology, network engineering, product development, and network automation experience in communication service provider core and edge IP networks.Consultant position will focus on infrastructure product development, technology and demand change, and network expansion for customers of Windstream Wholesale and large Enterprise customer on-net packet services.The Consultant role would lead Windstream’s IP and data network architecture and evolution, looking ahead towards next gen components, protocols, and systems to propel Windstream to the front edge of packet products and services with industry-leading network cost efficiency.Job Responsibilities:
Work with a Product development team to understand customer demands in the Wholesale and Enterprise packet and IP products:FTTT, Carrier Ethernet, DIA, L3 VPN
Define capabilities, evolution, and develop new products for Wholesale customer demands in the Windstream network
Identify network deployment locations and demand profiles to supply to engineering teams
Evaluate and select new technologies and systems in routing, switching, IPoDWDM integration, and network automation leveraging experience in:
ISIS, BGP, SR-MPLS, LDP, IP planning and analysis tools, thin vs. thick core designs, network virtualization, and network security practices
Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, and/or Ciena routing products of various silicon, O/S, and fabric generations
Further knowledge and use of disaggregated routing solutions using merchant silicon, network O/S, and VNF integrations
L2 and L3 services models, including designs for end-to-end QoS, SLA, OAM, and SAT
Converged service models using EVPN end-to-end with PCE control and SDN orchestration
Conduct RFx analysis work, lead proof of concept tests, and instigate field trial activities
Champion innovation in new technologies, new services, and existing product evolution
Work with peers in partner Engineering and Strategy organizations to select and integrate hardware and software for product deployment and growth
Evolve existing and establish new IP testbeds, enhance testing methods/procedures, and develop test case automation within a network lab facility.
Document platform, product, and service configurations
Support network intelligence and automation programs for packet products.
Possess excellent attention to detail with written, verbal, and presentation skills

Experience Required
In depth understanding of communications service provider industry; in depth knowledge of many data network engineering disciplines and vendor equipment including IP routing, MPLS switching, Carrier Ethernet, IPoDWDM, MBH, network management, and test equipment operations.
Ability to build economic cost models for data services, network projects, network architectures, and new technology platforms.
In depth knowledge of accepted communications service provider engineering and operations practices.
Computer software knowledge to include Microsoft Office, Custom Planning Tools, Databases, computer and network operating systems and EMS applications.
Good analytical skills; the ability to prioritize projects; great oral and written communication skills; and great interpersonal skills.
Good project management skills required to balance timelines and priorities of network, lab, and analysis projects.
College degree in Engineering or a related field and 7+ years professional level experience or a combination of experience and education.
