The Leidos Defense group is currently seeking an experienced System Engineer/Hardware Engineer to work at our Huntsville, AL location. This position is responsible for requirements development, technical planning, system hardware-software-network design, development and integration test planning, verification and validation, and fielding. Evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems. Duties include being a member of an engineering team responsible for engineering solutions for a Citrix environment on a private cloud infrastructure. This will include but may not be limited to activities for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop, managing group policy/security, functions as a technical lead on new projects, managing machine catalogs, delivery groups, persistent and non-persistent images, physical and virtual NetScaler.

Responsibilities - What You'll Be Doing:

As the Hardware Engineer for a major IT modernization effort for the US Army, you will:
  • Provide engineering and subject matter expertise in the evaluation, development, and documentation of the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and hosted/streamed applications. Participate in the development of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop architecture design and implementation across the organization.
  • Provide computer sizing and configuration designs across the cloud to support migration of mission applications / services
  • Maintain a highly available Citrix environment including optimization of entry points and Citrix server performance optimization
  • Manage the security of the Citrix systems by following best practice methods for the applications and servers
  • Implement a robust monitoring of the VDI environment using tools such as Citrix Director and various monitoring tools
  • Provides direct troubleshooting and problem resolution support, to include Root Cause Analysis.
  • Produces and maintains documentation of the VDI solution to include the system sub-system, components in the IT hosting portfolio, including as-built documentation, capacity/performance plans, and all other areas of system life-cycle planning.
  • Consistently explore, investigate, research, analyze, assess, implement, and transition new technologies to an operational state to modernize and improve upon existing infrastructure solutions.
  • Ensure VDI solutions are Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliant
  • Coordinate with other components and the customer to analyze, decompose, and allocate system level requirements to lower level functional and physical/design requirements.

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:
  • Requires BS degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience. May possess a Doctorate in technical domain. (Additional Experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.)

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education - Favorable if you have:
  • DoD 8570 Certification (e.g. Security+ or CISSP).
  • Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues.
  • Citrix Cloud (CC-VAD-X) Certification.
  • AWS or Azure related certification.
  • Knowledge of Research, Development, Test, & Evaluation (RDT&E) Concepts and Interoperability or other Command and Control system concepts.
  • Systems Engineering experience.
  • Concept of Operations (CONOPS), System Architecting.
  • Requirements definition, decomposition, and allocation.
  • Experience in requirements specifications, development, verification process, and tools.
  • Experience supporting large scale development and deployment programs.

Clearance Required:
  • Must have active Secret Security Clearance.
