Type: Full Time / Direct HireLocation: Huntsville, AL We are currently looking for a talented FPGA/ASIC Design Engineer to join our client’s team. This is a Full-Time position. Will work on site, with hybrid remote potential. Interview process will include (2) virtual interviews. Note: Not open to 3rd party/C2C consultants. This position is only available to those who can work on W2 basis without a sponsored work visa. Visa Sponsorship is not available. Job Details:The FPGA/ASIC Design Engineer will be a senior member of a team responsible for the development and maintenance of complex FPGA/ASIC designs used in products. This is a highly skilled, professional-level, technical leadership position that requires broad knowledge of electrical engineering concepts and FPGA/ASIC development. The FPGA/ASIC Design Engineer works closely with Hardware and Software Design Engineers on all FPGA/ASIC-related activities required to successfully introduce new products and to support existing products.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design digital circuits, blocks and systems that implement FPGA/ASIC-based product features.
  • Capture FPGA/ASIC designs using the VHDL or Verilog hardware description languages.
  • Write VHDL or Verilog test benches to simulate FPGA/ASIC designs.
  • Simulate FPGA/ASIC designs using Siemens Questa or similar simulation tools.
  • Synthesize FPGA designs using tools such as Xilinx Vivado or Altera Quartus.
  • Troubleshoot FPGA/ASIC-specific problems and FPGA/ASIC-related system-level problems in a lab environment using oscilloscopes, data generation/analysis test equipment, and (for FPGA only) Xilinx ChipScope or Altera SignalTap. This work may be performed in collaboration with Hardware or Software Design Engineers, or independently.
  • Acquire system-level knowledge of products, as required, to test and troubleshoot complex, system-level, FPGA/ASIC-related problems.
  • Work closely with Hardware and Software Design Engineers to take FPGA/ASIC-based products from concept to production.
  • Design or assist in the design of the internal architecture of FPGA/ASIC projects.
  • Work with Hardware and Software Design Engineers and Product Managers on the FPGA/ASIC-related aspects of product planning, including requirements, feature definition and device selection.
  • Study internal requirements, customer requirements and applicable industry standards, as needed, to implement FPGA/ASIC-related product features.
  • Write programs in support of FPGA/ASIC design and test activities using languages such as Python, Linux shell script, C or C, Matlab, etc.
  • Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field is required.
  • 8+ years of experience is required.
  • Successful design and completion of multiple, complex, in-production FPGA/ASIC projects is required.
  • Successful design and completion of multiple, complex, in-production blocks of complex digital circuitry is required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are required.
  • No travel is expected for this position.
Preferred Qualifications NOT REQUIRED:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with the design and troubleshooting of Passive Optical Network (e.g. GPON, XGS-PON) IP is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with the design and troubleshooting of Ethernet switching and traffic management IP is preferred.
  • Experience with the design and troubleshooting of Ethernet interfaces is preferred.
  • Experience with the design and troubleshooting of board-level telecommunications products is preferred.
