The Strategic Deterrence and Defense Division (SD3) leads the Aerospace team supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). As a Performance Analysis Engineer for MDA System Assessment and Integration, you will play a critical role by leading independent analyses of the Missile Defense System (MDS) and providing technical expertise for the System Integrator. This role will offer technical analysis and recommendations to customer stakeholders on mission-critical solutions.

Work Model: This position will be a hybrid work model with most of the work week required to be onsite at Aerospace or customer facilities in closed areas for classified work.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Support the development of performance assessment/analysis plans to assess various aspects of missile defense systems in different environments to include Flight Test, Ground Test, and Component-Level Tests.
  • Develop software tools and analyze data from Hardware in the Loop (HWIL), Flight Test (FT), and Digital Simulations to identify capabilities and limitations associated with interceptors and kill vehicles.
  • Assess interceptor capabilities (booster and kill vehicle) for ballistic missile defense, including the Ground-Based Interceptor (GBI) and future Next-Generation Interceptor (NGI), through analysis from digital simulations as well as any known testing, hardware, and software caveats/limitations
  • Develop and present timely and technically accurate briefings and reports that clearly communicate analysis results and provide recommended solutions, supporting critical decisions in collaboration with technical leads, management, and customers
  • Work with a combined team of government, other FFRDC/University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), and System Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) personnel
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed

This position is available as a Member of Technical Staff or Sr. Member of Technical Staff.

What You Need to be Successful

Member of Technical Staff

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field
  • 2 years of overall technical experience
  • Experience related to software development, testing, verification & validation, analysis, or tool development.
  • Proficiency in Matlab and/or Python programming and experience working with SQL databases
  • Experience in data visualization
  • Some travel is required
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

Sr. Member of Technical Staff

Minimum Requirements:
  • 5 years of overall technical experience
  • Same requirements as above

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field
  • Knowledge and experience with at least one component of the Missile Defense System (MDS), MDS Targets, or MDS Testing.
  • Experience in technical fields related to Missile Defense (sensors, target discrimination, fire control, launch vehicles, kill vehicles, targets)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed environment
  • Ability to rapidly learn new software programs and languages and apply new technologies and techniques
  • Experience working with and analyzing Flight Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) test data
  • Experience in working with large data sets and/or developing data pipelines
  • Current and active Secret clearance with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
