The Strategic Deterrence and Defense Division (SD3) leads the Aerospace team supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). As the Senior Project Engineer for MDA System Assessment and Integration, you will play a critical role by leading independent analyses of the Missile Defense System (MDS) and providing technical expertise for the System Integrator. This role will offer technical analysis and recommendations to customer stakeholders on mission-critical solutions.Work Model: This position will be a hybrid work model with most of the work week required to be onsite at Aerospace or customer facilities in closed areas for classified work.What You'll Be Doing- Provide technical leadership to efforts supporting the MDA Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) Capabilities Assessment (BCA) team and System Integrator (SI).
- Lead a team of analysts and technical reach back support in the independent assessment of performance of the Missile Defense System and Integration
- Develop software tools and analyze data from digital simulations to identify capabilities and limitations of the MDS
- Assess interceptor capabilities (booster and kill vehicle) for ballistic missile defense, including the Ground-Based Interceptor (GBI) and future Next-Generation Interceptor (NGI), through analysis from digital simulations as well as any known testing, hardware, and software caveats/limitations
- Develop and present timely and technically accurate briefings and reports that clearly communicate analysis results and provide recommended solutions, supporting critical decisions in collaboration with technical leads, management, and customers
- Work with a combined team of government, other FFRDC/University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), and System Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) personnel
- Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed
- Bachelors degree from an accredited program in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
- 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments
- Knowledge and experience with at least one component of the Missile Defense System (MDS), MDS Targets, and/or MDS Testing
- Experience related to software development, modeling and simulation, testing, verification & validation, analysis, or tool development
- Experience in Matlab and/or Python programming
- Ability to lead multiple programs and/or activities simultaneously and to be comfortable serving as a technical point-of-contact to the customer
- Demonstrated technical team leadership skills
- Excellent technical written and oral communication skills
- Willing to travel domestically approx. 10%
- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
- Masters or PhD degree from an accredited program in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
- 12 or more years of experience supporting or contributing to the MDA, with a variety of experience with different elements, systems engineering, systems integration, and/or ground-based midcourse defense (GMD)
- Experience analyzing interceptor performance, including target discrimination, and/or Systems Engineering (MBSE, Digital Engineering)
- Ability to rapidly learn new software programs and languages and apply new technologies and techniques
- Experience in working with large data sets
- Experience working with and analyzing Flight Hardware in the Loop test data
- Experience in working with mixed government, SETA, and FFRDC teams in technical, architecture, strategy, and systems engineering projects and tasks
- Demonstrated ability to execute tasks using a matrixed environment
- Ability to thrive in dynamic environments with ambiguous expectations
- Current and active Secret clearance with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
