Position / Job Title: Technical Writer

Work Location: Huntsville, AL. (Remote)

Job summary: Galapagos Federal Systems, LLC is looking for a Technical Writer to produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our proposals. Proposals vary in length from a one-page letter to a document with hundreds of pages and require a coordinated effort to make sure the proposal is consistent, complete, prepared according to the client's instructions and sent in before the deadline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Not listed in order of importance. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements for RFP and use strategy meetings with the team to fully understand the purpose of the proposal, the requirements and expectations of the client and the team, and the subject matter of the document
  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards
  • Create the proposal, such as design, writing, editing, review, and production to ensure each section is written in a consistent format and completed according to the RFP instructions
  • Read, edit, and finalize each section of a proposal
  • Make changes to bring a consistent tone to sections from different writers, ensure the content matches the RFP, and include standard or approved proposal language for legal sections according to company policy
  • Follow-up with team members to get feedback and revisions and ensuring that the proposal development stays on schedule
  • Update the team on a regular basis on how the proposal is progressing
  • Assemble the final text, graphics, exhibits and supporting documents into an attractive package
  • Other duties assigned.

Requirements and skills:

  • Understanding of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
  • Understanding of Department of Defense (DoD) Information Technologies, Department of Defense Enterprise Services Management Framework (DESMF) and Department of Department Architecture Framework (DODAF)
  • Understanding of Network Operating Systems (Microsoft Windows, RedHat Linux, and Unix)
  • Understanding of DoD Network Operations (NetOps), Information Assurance/Risk Management Framework and Cyber Security.
  • Experience operating and maintaining networks/systems including systems administration, network administration, service desk operations, Tier II IT Support, Audio Visual/Video teleconferencing technologies, and end user support
  • Familiarity with netops tools including Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Systems Management Server (SMS), Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), BMC Remedy Trouble Ticketing System, SolarWinds, and Spectrum
  • Proven working experience in technical writing of software documentation
  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
  • Excellent written skills in English
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic familiarity with the SDLC and software development
  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent preferred

Education and/or Experience/Skills Required:

  • BA in English, writing, communications, curriculum development, or software/computer engineering
  • MA in technical writing a plus
  • Society of Technical Writers certification a plus
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous deadlines
  • 2-3 years of technical writing experience
  • Experience with product development, including past use of product development software.
  • Teaching, grant writing, or scientific publishing experience a plus
  • Portfolio of technical writing samples for review

  • Strong verbal and written communication to effectively express concepts, plans, and proposals
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Security Clearance: DoD active security clearance may be required at a high-level security. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Physical Requirements: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have enough mobility, including but not limited to, bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. May include lifting weigh up to thirty (30) pounds, as necessary.
