This position will be responsible for overseeing the effective execution of safety & environmental technical requirements, development and successful implementation of safety & environmental processes, while leading a zero-injury safety culture that results in regulatory compliance and a safe workplace.How you will impact WestRock:● Provide safety and environmental leadership for 350+ employees in our local converting and warehousing operations● Ensure safe and environmentally responsible working conditions● Establish & maintain a positive safety culture based on execution excellence, continuous improvement, and employee engagement● Establish & maintain safety & environmental compliance in alignment with regulatory and WestRock requirements.● Participate as a member of the plant leadership team, leads the safety/environmental teams● Align overall safety & environmental projects with annual business plan and objectives● Develop and lead safety/environmental performance improvement project teams● Lead internal audits of safety & environmental performance and processes● Develop and administer safety & environmental training programs● Collaborate with safety and environmental professionals within our corporate group to improve processes and ensure success within the local facility and share key learnings● Ensure rigorous incident investigations, root cause analysis, thorough completed corrective actions, communications, and reporting● Perform periodic reporting and presentations of training, incident reports, performance metrics, action items and results● Interface with plant employees daily and follow up with actions as needed● Key results of position: accurate, effective and compliant safety & environmental programs, employee safety ownership/participation rates >90%, zero serious injuries, zero environmental incidents, passing scores for internal/external safety/environmental audits, a workplace safety culture of relentless reduction in hazards and control of risk (measured by completed safety improvements.)What you will need to Succeed:● Bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering or other technical discipline● Prefer 2+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment● Ability to lead complex initiatives across multiple departments● Ability to act as a change agent achieving results with urgency● Able to organize multiple teams and actions items simultaneously - strong organizational and influencing skills● Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills● Ability to problem solve, organize, analyze and interpret data● Ability to train, motivate, and coach employees● Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint)● Working knowledge of OSHA regulatory requirements● As a member of the plant leadership team, ability to work on various other tasks/projects as required (beyond safety & environmental) to support the broader success of the business● Ability to work nights and weekends occasionally as needed to support the 24 hours/7 days operation● Travel Requirement Estimate: Up to 15% (As needed)What we offer:· Corporate culture based on integrity, respect, accountability and excellence· Comprehensive training with numerous learning and development opportunities· An attractive salary reflecting skills, competencies and potential· A career with a global packaging company where Sustainability, Safety and Inclusion are business drivers and foundational elements of the daily workWestRock Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to creating and maintaining a diverse workforce: Minorities/Females/ Disabled/VeteransSafety/Health/EnvironmentWestRock Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to creating and maintaining a diverse workforce: Minorities/Females/Disabled/Veterans.Safety ManagerAlabama-Lanettreq11431
