I am looking to speak with black citizens of Mobile that have been actively involved in Mardi Gras society, the process, etc. I grew up in Mobile and I am hoping to make a documentary or film about this holiday, particularly how it is essentially racially segregated. Please contact me if you are part of a specifically black Mardi Gras society or have been part of the court for the black culture of Mobile. I certainly understand how this post sounds strange, but if you are from Mobile, you understand how segregated this holiday actually is.
I would like to be honest and forward and share that I am white and currently live in Miami. I have never been part of the white Mardi Gras society from Mobile, and I sincerely want to explore the discrimination and racial divides that happen in terms of this celebration.
Please email me through craigslist if you are willing to share your experience. I would love to talk to you. I believe this conversation could be very valuable in bringing light to the problems that Mobile has with discrimination.
