JOB SUMMARY:
The Dredge Operator removes sand, gravel, or other materials in order to excavate and maintain navigable channels in waterways. The Dredge Operator will be responsible for the operations of a variety of equipment utilized in dredging. The position requires the ability to work a rotating schedule and live on vessel for extended periods of time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Remove sand, gravel, or other accumulated sediment with a hydraulic dredge.
Responsible for operating a variety of equipment utilized in dredging.
Move levers to position dredges for excavation, to engage hydraulic pumps, to raise and lower suction booms, and to control rotation of cutterheads.
Start power winches that draw in or let out cables to change positions of dredges or pull in and let out cables manually.
Pump water to clear machinery pipelines.
Control pumps or pumping equipment.
Lower anchor poles to verify depths of excavations, using winches, or scan depth gauges to determine depths of excavations
Watch gauges, dials, or display screens to make sure a machine is working.
Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Take corrective actions to improve plant and equipment performance.
Conduct shift inspections and shift maintenance duties.
Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
Maintain a clean work area.
Complete daily safety inspections.
Assist with project specific reporting.
Complete general equipment inspection and maintenance.
Work and live on vessel for extended periods of time.
Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Perform other duties as directed.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current TWIC card required or obtain before employment.
Previous experience as a Dredging Operator.
Demonstrated experience using judgement to make decisions best for project outcome.
Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company's Driving Policy
Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screening.
