POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice President of Programs and Grants, working closely with the President/CEO, is responsible for overseeing ACF's grantmaking and scholarship programs, overseeing management of Pick.Click.Give., and other special projects. This position guides effective communication and working relationships with ACF's programmatic partners and is responsible for participating in the overall leadership of the organization as a member of the Executive Leadership T earn.
YOUR IMPACT
Provide Program and Grants Leadership
Maintain in-depth knowledge of community foundations. Be able to clearly communicate legal, financial, and community benefits of a community foundation to donors, grantees, community leaders and others.
Oversee development of grant guidelines, outcomes, and coordination of grant and scholarship cycles for ACF Field of Interest, scholarship and other competitive funds.
Oversee processing and awarding of all grants awarded through ACF competitive and discretionary funds, including review, processing, approval, and reporting requirements.
Oversee Program and Grants team members including those employed under special programs.
Act as lead staff member for the ACF Board's Program & Grants Committee.
Provide Special Initiatives Leadership
Understand the community needs in order to initiate collaborative projects with community groups.
Monitor progress of special initiatives to assist in their success in achieving key objectives.
Oversee project budgets including payment requests, expenditures and grant reporting.
Prepare and/ or oversee grant requests submitted by ACF in conjunction with project partners. Assure grant expenditures are in compliance with budgets approved by project funders, and prepare and submit progress and/ or final grant reports to project funders.

Provide Internal Leadership and Strategic Direction
Work with the President/CEO to develop and monitor annual budgets for Programs and Grants and individual project budgets.
Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Programs and Grants team members.
Develop and improve internal systems for an effective grants and scholarship program, including methods to ensure monitoring and implementation of best practices.
Provide review and insight into fund agreements under development to ensure ACF's ability to comply with donor intent in perpetuity.
Participate in the overall leadership of the organization as a member of the executive team.
Work with the ACF President/CEO and other ACF team members to ensure ACF's policies, procedures and grant agreements comply with national standards and best practices.
Participate in strategic Board discussions.
Develop and maintain relationships with statewide and national funders.
Help Build ACF's Community Leadership
Oversee events to engage grantees, applicants, programmatic partners, and scholarship, grant, and Affiliate volunteers.
Represent ACF at community events, task forces, boards, and other gatherings.
Ensure ACF is effectively investing grant and scholarship funding into Alaskan communities in compliance with donor intent.
Perform other related duties.
WHAT YOU BRING
Proven effectiveness in leading a team of individuals toward common goals.
Understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges inherent in rural Alaskan communities.
Understanding of statewide grantmaking landscape.
Proven and progressively responsible program and project management skills that include administration of programmatic, financial and analytic activities.
Creative and effective problem solving and consensus building skills (negotiate solutions and resolve conflicts).
Understanding of and experience in nonprofit operations and management and ability to assess organizational health by reviewing financials and planning documents.
Ability to work in high-paced environment with competing demands while maintaining integrity of work product (for self and team).
Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects and concurrent activities.
Creative person willing to think outside of the box and engage in collaborative funding with donors and other foundations and partners.
Ability to work with and develop strategic and equitable working relationships with diverse populations, interact with and motivate a wide variety of people including Board members, grantmakers, grantees, donors and others.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in leadership in a nonprofit agency.
Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree or additional professional experience preferred.
Knowledge of and experience with philanthropy, grantmaking, grant writing, budgeting, and donor relations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management (relational databases, spreadsheets, word processing, email).
Strong analytic, interpersonal and networking skills. Strong team player.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Knowledge of and commitment to Alaska with strong interest in the work of ACF.
Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with staff and with Board committees.
