We are a family who is looking for a wonderful Teacher to teach our child (and potentially 1 more) who is enrolled in a Homeschool program, in our classroom space. The schedule is 28 hours a week paid from Monday through Thursday, 9am to 3pm in the classroom, plus 1 hour paid a day for prep work outside of the 9am to 3pm schedule.

We are looking for an individual who loves children, loves teaching, is patient, and is kind! The ideal candidate would be familiar with highly functioning ASD, ADHD, have knowledge of positive behavioral supports, be able to follow or modify a sensory diet, routine charts, picture schedules, take brain breaks during teaching and understand some aspects of an IEP and 504 modifications.

Curriculums to be used (we used for Kindergarten): Reading – Barton, Writing – Writing Without Tears, ELA – Heggerty, Math – Math-U-See (and some Saxon Math Worksheets), Science – curriculum not selected but MEL as a supplement, Social Emotional Learning – curriculum selected, open to suggestions, Social Studies – not selected, Art- not selected.

Requirements/Preferred:

Teaching experience in PreK – 3rd or equivalent experience

Bachelor’s in Special Education or Early Childhood Development

Special education experience or will consider a candidate with early elementary grade experience in a resource classroom or similar setting (private clinic, ABA clinic, etc.)

Licensed in Alaska preferred

A typical day - we start the day with positive affirmations and reading a picture book, then do reading, writing and math with a number of breaks for physical activity and a snack. By lunch time we leave the classroom and go make lunch and eat together with whomever is home. We read at least 3 picture books a day. In the afternoon we do a science experiment or building of some sort. All afternoon we essentially play all day and we allow all the learning to be child directed subjects and learning. We spend at least 2 hours a day outside reading in hammocks we put up in trees, exercising, exploring bugs, exploring nature, etc. Weekly, we do a couple fun outings to places such as the YMCA Dimond pool, GetAir, to a park or playground, the Imaginarium, bowling, cooking, the Alaska Zoo, etc. We would love to have another child that 6+ years old to do schooling with him.

We would consider a Homeschool Parent who is also a Teacher of a child(ren) ages 6+.

The job would preferably start the 3rd week in July. Successful candidate will get to spend 1 to 2 weeks with his current Teacher to observe and learn from his current Teacher (up until August 1st).
