AmeriCorps Client Services Navigator

Alaska, Anchorage / mat-su, 99501 Anchorage / mat-su USA

Vacancy expired!

The Alaska Public Defender Agency is recruiting AmeriCorps members to join us for a 12-month service program. This is a volunteer position and members receive a living allowance stipend. AmeriCorps members assist low-income, justice-involved Alaskans with access to critical stabilizing resources in their community. This includes substance use disorder treatment, housing, public assistance, mental health services, and much more. Our members work with our clients to create a service plan to address our clients' non-legal barriers to success. Our overarching goals are to reduce recidivism and incarceration rates. We have member positions available in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Palmer, Juneau, Kenai, Ketchikan, Kodiak, and Nome/Kotzebue. Members commit to 12 months and 1700 hours of service and receive:

1) $16,502 living allowance (this is not a wage and is not tied to hours, it's a stipend for living costs)

2) Free medical/dental/vision coverage

3) Child care assistance (if eligible)

4) Forbearance on qualifying student loans

5) Student loan interest accrued while serving to be paid by the National Service Trust

6) 12 months direct experience in a law office, in the criminal justice field, and with social services coordination

7) Access to a robust and supportive alumni network

8) Access to a comprehensive Member Assistance Program with many resources for member in service

9) Networking opportunities with professionals in multiple fields

Eligible candidates are at least 18 years old, no criminal history, have a high school diploma (4-yr college degree preferred but not required), and US citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Please contact Amanda Hillberry via email through Craigslist and you will receive a link to the application. This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing MSW programs, law programs, criminal justice programs, etc.
