Communications and Outreach Coordinator

The Southeast Alaska Conservation Council (SEACC) seeks a talented professional to coordinate our communications and build grassroots support for our campaigns. The Communications and Outreach Coordinator will create, implement, and track online engagement components of our work, manage our digital platforms and our supporter database, lead our communications and media work, and coordinate and implement events. He/she will report to the Director of Development and Operations and will work closely with campaign staff as well as partner organizations to grow critical support for collaborative campaign goals to protect wild lands and clean water in Southeast Alaska.

SEACC is a small grassroots nonprofit in the Tongass National Forest in Juneau, Alaska. The greater Juneau region is rich with access to the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, foraging, hiking, and skiing. The city is famous for its rainy and dark winters, which is a consideration for those contemplating a relocation. The community also has a vibrant arts community with a local theatre, opera, symphony, and annual free folk music festival as well as the State Museum and Sealaska Heritage Institute.

The Communications and Outreach Coordinator is a full-time permanent non-exempt position. The salary range will be between $40,000-$45,000 depending on experience and skills. SEACC offers healthcare, three weeks of paid leave annually for new hires and four weeks after the first year, twelve days of paid sick leave annually, and a 401K plan with employer match contributions after the first year.

Responsibilities:

Manage communications “ oversee the coordinated, sustained, and creative use of SEACCs emails, social media, website, and earned media presence. Ensure consistent messaging and high-quality professional products, with particular emphasis on liaising with the media to ensure robust coverage of SEACCs program work and the issues we work on.

Manage SEACCs database (NationBuilder) “ Act as point person for everything NationBuilder. Lead SEACCs staff in optimum utilization of the database and manage the collection of supporter data and proper maintenance of database. Perform regular data review and data entry in SEACCs database.

Grow SEACCs base of support “ Use our NationBuilder database and other online organizing tools to analyze, track and grow online support for SEACCs campaigns.

Organize events “ Organize and manage outreach events and provide support and assistance to program staff for campaign events. Assist with and create appropriate materials for events and pull together supplies and coordinate staffing for events.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

Thrives in a fast-paced office environment and can manage a high volume of work efficiently without sacrificing quality.

Is a strong and persuasive writer with excellent proofreading skills.

Is known for being highly organized, with great attention to detail.

Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a team-focused approach to projects, and track record of success with colleague and community relationships.

Has excellent problem-solving skills and a strong sense of ownership over tasks, including follow-through, and is willing to do what it takes to get the job done.

Experience with running social media accounts; experience with database management, especially NationBuilder, is a bonus.

Additional desired skills:

Experience working with the press and generating earned media.

Professional experience with website development and online grassroots engagement software.

A strong eye for visual communications and proficiency with graphic design and image editing software.
