Responsible for assisting with all aspects of the food program at AWAIC, including documentation associated with food grants, menu planning, inventory, setting out food for all meals, and all needs related to food preparation. The Food & Facilities Assistant is responsible for daily meal preparation in coordination with the Food & Facilities Coordinator.

In cooperation with staff and participants the Food & Facilities Assistant is responsible for the cleanliness of the administration area and shelter. This includes cleaning the shelter kitchen area so it meets code and providing cleaning support to all areas of the administration area, all communal areas of the shelter, and the shelter bathrooms.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Have/obtain appropriate training and permits required within first month of hire.

Food handling experience.

Cooking experience.

Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., bend, kneel, and climb ladders.

Reliable transportation

Preferences:

Commercial kitchen experience

Food purchasing experience

Janitorial experience

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. For extended period of time may be required to stand or walk; push or pull heavy equipment. Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching as required

Essential Functions Include And Are Not Limited To:

Assist with all aspacts relating to the kitchen and food safety and supply such as sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors, disinfecting the counter space, emptying and recycling of trash.

Assist with inventory of food items and equipment as well as ensuring dinner ingredients are available and ready for cooking.

Assist with the preparation and distribution of menus that offer participants variety and meet nutritional requirements.

Clean and maintain kitchen equipment on bi-weekly basis as a means of preventative maintenance.

Assure that the kitchen and areas associated with the kitchen follows all federal, state, and municipal laws and guidelines relation to sanitation and safety. Ensure that all those who use the kitchen are aware of safety and sanitation guidelines related to use of the facility and food preparation

Clean shelter common areas e.g. vacuuming and deep cleaning of all shelter bathrooms.

Clean all areas of the administrative area.

Assist with monthly review of facility operations to include deep cleaning.

Other duties as assigned.
