Alaska Satellite Internet in Fairbanks is seeking an additional employee to assist the ESM with operating the business and enterprise section of our company. Duties will be some combination of order fulfillment and technical support. A full time employee would be preferred, but part time employment might be possible depending on schedule availability and level of commitment. Pay is $16/hr, no benefits. A free company lunch is usually also provided. The usual work schedule is business hours Monday through Friday.
Order fulfillment duties include tasks such as
- checking in new inventory
- checking out inventory for new orders
- packaging materials for shipping
- preparing shipping records
- testing equipment and loading configuration files
Technical support duties include tasks such as
- initial over-the-phone troubleshooting procedures (customer facing)
- communicating with network vendors to request assistance on trouble items
- logging into monitoring portals and remote terminals to gather system data
- testing customer equipment sent into our office
Other duties
- taking messages for other departments when other lines are busy
- running office errands
- other tasks may be assigned by the company owner
Minimum qualifications
- Must be hard working and diligent in working tasks as assigned through our task and ticket management system.
- Must be reliable.
- Must be comfortable routinely communicating over the phone with customers and with vendors.
- Must be able to lift boxes 40lbs or smaller without assistance, and larger boxes with assistance. Must be able to climb steps and small ladders.
- Must be comfortable working with computer interfaces.
- Must understand the fundamentals of computer networking.
- Must speak and write English well enough to communicate over the phone and complete technical and support documentation.
- Must have basic mechanical skills, e.g., operating wrenches and screwdrivers.
Preferred (desired) qualifications
- advanced knowledge of computer networking concepts, such as the inner workings of the TCP/IP stack and common communication protocols
- advanced knowledge of radio communications theory and technology; e.g., HF/VHF systems and Wi-Fi
