BCE is currently looking to hire a Marine Biologist position located in Southeast Alaska (Kodiak, Alaska Peninsula, and Aleutian Islands). JOB SUMMARY

Marine Biologist is being sought to assist as a Marine Mammal Observer (MMO)/Protected Species Observer (PSO) Coordinator during the construction of several projects. The MMO/PSO Coordinator would help ensure compliance with the project Incidental Harassment Authorizations (IHAs) and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Biological Opinion (BiOp) throughout the life of the projects.

The overall purpose of the Protected Species Observer (PSO) Coordinator is ensure project compliance with the Marine Mammal and Protection Act and Endangered Species Act during in-water pile installation, removal, and drilling activities. The PSO Coordinator would coordinate between the Contractor(s) and PSOs/MMOS. Coordination will help to ensure monitoring procedures for affected marine species and mitigation actions are implemented during all in-water pile installation, removal, and drilling activities.JOB DUTIES

Monitor the project area and document all marine mammals potentially exposed to noise at or above established thresholds.

Minimize impacts to marine mammals through mitigation measures such as shutting down activities when marine mammals enter shutdown zones.

Collect data pertaining to takes, occurrence, and behavior of marine mammals in the project area.

Review the NMFS BiOp, IHAs, and 4MP and provide comments.

Participate in meetings as needed.

Coordinate between the Contractor(s) and PSO/MMOs throughout the duration of project construction.

Submit monthly bi-weekly short reports that provide and keep tally of take numbers to the client.QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and experience in Southeast Alaska (Kodiak, Alaska Peninsula, and Aleutian Islands).

Must be willing to travel or relocate to the Southeast Alaska area during the length of the project. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
