This position is an Operations position at the Kenai Refinery. Selected applicants may work in the process areas or tank farm. Kenai has an operations technical progression ladder emphasizing both experience and skills. The starting tech level will be based on previous work experience and qualifications. This position requires employees to be on-call and work overtime as needed. Candidates must live within 60 miles of the facility or be willing to relocate at their own expense. The Operator Technician will be trained in the specific area(s) of responsibility.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Operator Technician must be fully committed to safety in all decisions. Must participate in all refinery safety initiatives and set a positive example for all members of the shift.

Safely operate the assigned area of the refinery to meet the objectives established by the area superintendent and shift supervisor.

Perform scheduled rounds, equipment checks, and log operating data.

Execute directions from the board operator and/or shift supervisor to make moves as needed in the unit.

Turn valves and adjust controls to meet specified temperatures, pressures, flow, and levels to meet product specifications.

Perform routine light maintenance activities such as lubrication of rotating equipment.

Observe process equipment to detect malfunctions, leaks, etc.

Troubleshoot and correct operating issues that occur on shift.

Responsible for waste management activities including removing, handling, labeling, and storage of hazardous materials. Conduct sampling of hazardous waste. Complete initial, annual, and re-fresher training as required by Waste Management Plan.

Respond to upsets involving hazardous waste and complete initial, annual, and re-fresher training identified in the Emergency Response Plan.

Communicate unit status and non-routine events to all shift members, shift supervisor, and relief in a clear manner.

Shut down operating equipment, isolate and prepare the equipment for maintenance as needed.

Respond to plant emergency situations and take necessary actions to minimize injury, environmental harm, and equipment damage.

Train on other units within the assigned area.

Perform any special tasks that may be assigned which will contribute to the achievement of the Company’s strategic objectives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate degree in Process Plant Technology, Power Plant Technology or related field, or equivalent work experience in an oil refinery, petrochemical plant or similar industry.

Ability to understand Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), procedure manuals, and other reference materials.

Understand plant control principles, interlocks, and operating parameters and their relation to the safe operation of the refinery.

Knowledge and understanding of mathematical computations.

Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.

Ability to think clearly and act quickly in times of emergency.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Must work 12 hour shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
