On-Call Security Officer 1 Summary: This position is responsible for ensuring good order, proper conduct, and safe conditions at the Alaska SeaLife Center. Education/Training Requirements:

High school diploma or GED;

Satisfactory completion of one or more self-defense training courses

Working knowledge of communications and security alarm systems.

Basic computer skills.

Essential Duties:

Patrols the facilities and grounds ensuring that good order, proper conduct and safe conditions prevail.

Provides a variety of assistance to staff and visitors; responds to emergency request for assistance or crime in progress; takes initial action as the situation requires. Responds to and investigates incidents to include interviewing witnesses, photo documentation and preparing the incident report.

Serves as the primary contact for emergency services.

Monitors facilities after hours by foot patrol, various electronic equipment and vehicle. Makes trouble calls to on-call ASLC personnel and calls for police assistance when required by departmental procedures.

Carries out light custodial tasks as assigned. Tasks may include vacuuming of gallery and office floors, assisting with carpet shampooing, dusting, and light cleaning.

Maintains CPR/First Aid certification. Provides CPR/First Aid as needed.

Provides aid to staff and visitors in emergency situations.

Maintains daily log of events and unusual occurrences that take place during their shift.

Works a rotating shift. May be required to work overtime.

Maintains a valid driver’s license.

Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.

Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

On-Call Security Officer 2 Summary: This position is responsible for ensuring good order, proper conduct, and safe conditions at the Alaska SeaLife Center. This position is a public facing presence, able and willing to enforce our visitor policies tactfully and effectively. Education/Training Requirements and Preferences: High school diploma or GED; satisfactory completion of two or more courses relevant to the position from the military or a recognized training program; completion of one or more self-defense training courses. Skills in communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, decision making, and current basic computer skills required. Working knowledge of communications and security alarm systems preferred. Military or law enforcement background preferred. Essential Duties:

Monitors the Alaska SeaLife Center’s (ASLC) public galleries and has the skills to support front line staff in enforcing the ASLC’s visitor policies ensuring that good order, proper conduct, and safe conditions prevail.

Monitors facilities after hours by foot patrol, various electronic equipment, and vehicles. Makes trouble calls to on-call ASLC personnel and calls for police assistance when required by departmental procedures.

Serves as the primary contact for emergency services.

Provides a variety of assistance to staff and visitors; uses a two-way radio; responds to emergency request for assistance or crime in progress; takes initial action as the situation requires. Responds to and investigates incidents to include interviewing witnesses, photo documentation and preparing the incident report.

When necessary and after proper evaluation of conditions, calls local authorities to remove a person or persons causing a disturbance, disruption, or damage to the Center’s property.

Is trained for active shooter situations and knows the protocols and actions to take in active shooter situations.

Functions as an active member of the ASLC’s Confined Space Rescue Team.

Functions as an active member of the ASLC’s Firearms/Animal Response Team and/or the Oiled Wildlife Response Team.

Assists Security and Custodial Supervisor with security-related tasks, including coordination of training courses and emergency drills, administrative policy and procedure, and any other assigned tasks.

Ensures monthly safety inspections are completed for emergency lights, fuel system, fire extinguishers, emergency eyewash, and shower stations.
