Job Title: IT Project Manager Job Location: Phoenix, AZ 85007 Job Duration: 12+ Months Contract Job Description: This position is currently 100% remote (if wanted) but must be available to come into the office for meetings, etc. Position Summary Project Managers on the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) IT team are self-driven and thrive working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that operates on collaboration and partnership with all business stakeholders. The successful candidate will demonstrate previous experience and success leading medium to large software development projects along with Agile/SCRUM teams. Responsibilities

  • Directs and monitors all activities for large, high risk, major software technology-based projects from initiation to delivery; projects cross platforms, applications, and/or business lines
  • Works with stakeholders to develop technology concepts, requirements, design alternatives, project schedules, and costs for new systems initiatives
  • Plans and directs complex program schedules and budget, monitoring project status in comparison to cost/time projections
  • Provides consistent and comprehensive status reports, project updates, and ongoing cost analyses, significant issue management and resolution, communication with business lines and technology management, often at senior management levels
  • May act as an internal consultant within technology and business groups to re-engineer technical processes for greater efficiency
  • May serve as a lead by providing direction to less experienced technical project management staff while serving in a project leadership role
  • Manages and drives multiple projects involving software development, data integration and management, manages deliverables to aggressive time lines while maintain high quality, cost efficiencies, and defined scope
  • Analyze and manage all phases, dependencies, risks, and strategy to meet project and account objectives from concept to post implementation support

  • Delivers work effort and project artifacts that demonstrate a commitment to transparency and traceability
  • Define, analyze, and interpret all project metrics, track project issues and risks and drive issue resolution to closure
  • Assess impact to cross-functional teams internal to as well as external to IT Department team
  • Facilitate project reviews and working sessions; document and communicate status, decisions, actions, and issues internally to Senior Management to align for customer communications and project stakeholders
  • Directs the activities of project support staff and sub-contractors and is responsible for ensuring appropriate resources are allocated and maintained to facilitate the successful completion of the project
  • Continuously ensuring resource planning matrix is reviewed and updated to support ongoing Scrum projects
  • Ensures the ongoing process/system capability associated with projects and manages any changes required to meet or exceed the expectations established in project designs
  • Works with product owner to coordinate training plans for newly released functionality
  • Works with system users to capture system deficiencies and work with product owner to manage change control
  • Identify/recommend process improvements when gaps are uncovered
Requirements
  • BS Degree CS or MIS or equivalent
  • 5+years' experience in project management roles
  • PMP, Six Sigma, Agile certification strongly preferred
  • Proficient in project and program management techniques, understands multiple software development methodologies, and uses current tools and techniques to monitor and measure project and program performance
  • Ability to use technical knowledge and analytical skills to identify solutions and workarounds to impediments
  • Aligns tactical project and program objectives with ADE's strategic goals
  • Listens, asks appropriate questions, and respects the viewpoints of others
  • Builds mutual trust and encourages respect and cooperation among team members; builds morale and team productivity by recognizing and praising the efforts and achievements of the team
  • Works effectively across team boundaries; develops and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and make sound decisions
