Sr. DIGITAL ENGINEERING MANAGER - eCommerce

PetSmart is accelerating its Digital transformation journey and is looking for an Engineering leader who can grow our team, mature our processes, and ensure the availability of the experiences we deliver to our customers are highly available and performant. PetSmart is at a key inflection point in our Digital maturity and we're looking for a leader who is excited by the opportunity to chart and enact our vision for the future.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of web and mobile Engineers who develop the customer facing experiences to support our omni-channel commerce capabilities. This agile team is responsible for developing new solutions, optimizing performance, ensuring quality and resiliency, and partnering with UX to ensure delightful experiences for our users. An ideal candidate will have experience managing web/mobile developers who deliver customer-facing experiences in a high-volume environment, understand the typical architecture of an ecommerce or omnichannel retailer, have a track record of growing a high-performing team, pragmatically balance value delivery with architectural purity, and have a passion for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the web and mobile Engineering teams delivering the customer experience of our eCommerce business
  • Coach team members to consider different approaches with a lends on early value delivery and incremental improvement Contribute to the technical discovery and planning for new projects
  • Contribute to technical solutions set across delivery team and in coordination with IT Strategy
  • Grow and mature a highly efficient, productive, high-quality engineering organization that consistently delivers on time
  • Propose and enact innovative ideas to improve velocity, quality, and enable new capabilities aligned with our strategic direction
  • Anticipate risks and issues and work to resolve roadblocks
  • Evaluate potential partner relationships
  • Identify and manage key systems metrics used to advise technical direction
  • Attract and retain a talented, diverse, high performing team of engineers
  • Coach, counsel, and mentor associates on their performance
  • Plan and manage team capacity through effective resource planning and tracking
  • Establish effective partnerships with agencies and staff augmentation providers to scale team capacity as needed
  • Influence vendor software and new capability roadmaps
  • Constantly pursue and learn industry leading/innovative engineering best practices/tools
  • Anticipate risks and issues and works to resolve roadblocks
  • Analyze potential partner relationships
  • Identify and manage key systems metrics used to advise technical direction
  • Understand and advocate best practices in high-level system designs

Qualifications
  • 5+ years' experience in leading successful web or mobile engineering teams
  • 5+ years' experience as a software engineer developing customer-facing applications
  • 5+ years' experience in an eCommerce environment
  • 5+ years' experience in application integration, solution design and support
  • Experience with various API design patterns and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of others
  • Proven skills at problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated capability to organize and plan work
  • Ability to achieve results through effective guidance of others
  • Able to understand business concepts and translate business needs into high level system requirements and plans
  • Demonstrated budget and change management skills
  • Project planning and presentation skills
  • Capable communications skills
  • Able to present highly complex ideas in a clear manner
