Job Title: 109114: Technical Writer Job Location: 801 East Jefferson Street, Phoenix, AZ 85034 (Hybrid position, mainly remote: Candidate will be remote, but will occasionally need to come into the office for meetings. The candidate will also need to come into the office for the first day of work.) Job Duration: 12 Months Contract Job Description: 1. Job Summary: The Technical Writer will create and revise technical and non-technical documents such as IT policies, processes, workflows, and standard work by interviewing current subject matter experts performing the work, reviewing existing documentation, and researching outside the organization for best practices. Areas of focus will include:

  • Governance, Risk and Compliance
  • IT purchase and accounting practices
  • State and Federal funding application process
  • Other IT standard work for systems design, analysis, programming, and quality control
2. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. 3. Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Writes and edits technical documents such as system security plans.
  • Writes and edits procedural documentation such as standard work, checklists, Visio workflows.
  • Manages complex documentation projects.
  • Determine the clearest and most logical way to present information for greatest reader comprehension (i.e. written process/policy, workflow diagrams, system diagrams, checklists, and/or automated tool recommendations).
  • Meets with engineers, programmers, analysts, project managers, and management to learn about specific products or processes.
  • Assesses the audience needs for the technical and procedural documentation; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding.
  • Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines.
  • Creates diagrams, charts, and other visual aids as part of end work product.
  • Conducts reviews of work product with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and completeness of final product, meets expectations and obtains consensus among varying opinions.
  • Designs and develops a Content Management Systems (CMS), templates, tools and techniques for documentation using Microsoft SharePoint Online.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to set and meet deadlines and to work independently.
  • Ability to edit and proofread work of colleagues.
  • Ability to recommend efficiencies in process workflows.
  • Proficient in both AP and MLA style and ability to follow AHCCCS standards and style guide.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, including Word, Excel, and Visio, including developing standard templates and tools for the department.
  • Proficient with Microsoft SharePoint Online, including overall organizational strategies for systems documentation and development of workflows for document review. Advanced SharePoint design experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of common IT industry standards such as NIST 800-53.
  • Knowledge of State/Federal budget practices.
  • Knowledge of AMS/LEAN methodology preferred.
5. Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field required.
  • Three years of related experience required with a focus in IT systems, Governance Risk and Compliance, and/or State and Federal documentation and budget practices
  • Expert level use of Microsoft O365 tools, including Word, Visio, SharePoint Online (Work samples should be provided and a skills test may be administered)
6. Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • If desired, a home office with dedicated space to secure AHCCCS-owned equipment and materials.
  • Ability to commute to job site on an as-needed basis to meet in person with AHCCCS staff
