Estimator Job Description:

We are looking for an estimator who will be responsible for reading blueprints, creating takeoffs and proposals and coordinating with all necessary departments throughout the life of assigned projects. The daily activities of a cost estimator vary depending on the projects in which they are currently involved and the status of those projects. Must be able to work well in a team environment. Assigned tasks may vary based on business necessity.

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

Research: Find out what the client wants, research costs for materials, equipment and labor. Read blueprints to understand all applicable details

Assess risk: Evaluate the level of risk for a project and be able to offer value engineering options for the customer

Takeoff: Complete detailed takeoff for all information necessary to put together a proposal

Gather quotes: Price material on assigned projects from any manufacturer

Collaborate: Work between departments, if necessary, to create assigned bids

Maintain files: Keep files of working documents, including takeoffs, plans, price lists, sales brochures and supplier price information

Gain approvals: Create material submittals that include product data, shop drawings and handing submittals then submit them to the Builder’s Project Manager to get approval from the Architect

Greenlight: Coordinate the greenlight of assigned projects to purchasing and operations teams

Office contact: Be main point of contact for field team, review RFIs and ASIs or other documents for changes, create change orders and communicate to all internal and external teams

Analyze: Analyze market conditions, manufacturers’ pricing, feedback from customers, blueprints and specifications

Time Management: Assist with multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines

Meetings: Attend weekly meetings to evaluate project progress and understand assignments. Be prepared for meetings to discuss all pertinent information on your assignments

Qualifications:

The qualifications, physical demands and work environment characteristics listed below represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the job successfully.

Flexible schedule for deadline-based position, mainly Monday-Friday 8-hour shifts

High school diploma/GED

Ability to work in the office daily. This is not a remote position.

Technically proficient in Office, Excel, Outlook, Word & PowerPoint

Prefer previous industry and/or estimating experience

Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively

High degree of detail orientation and organizational skills

Exceptional written communication and interpersonal skills

Confidently inquisitive and receptive

Self-motivated and takes initiative

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
