Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Safely drives and operates any or all equipment on assigned routes collecting waste under a variety of weather conditions.
Able to perform a through pre/post trip inspection according to Department of Transportation regulations and documents items requiring maintenance.
Communicates with Dispatcher/Route Foreman concerning delays, problematic sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, and other service or maintenance related issues.
Supervises Helpers assigned to assist in the loading and unloading of refuse. The Driver is responsible for the performance of the route and ensuring that assigned Helpers are completing duties in conformance with Company policy.
Assigned routes and duties must be completed efficiently and kept clean and maintained to meet the Department’s standards.
Assists Helper(s) by collecting piles of waste.
Functions as a Helper in the Operations Department working on the back of a garbage collection truck where work involves heavy lifting and exposures to unpleasant odors, machinery with moving parts, and noise. Must be able to perform job duties and possess the physical abilities.
Requirements:
Must have a valid State of Arizona Class B Driver’s License or its equivalent.
Must have a valid Medical Certificate as required by the Department of Transportation.
Must satisfy all necessary requirements established by the Department of Transportation and the FMCSA.
Possess knowledge of both safe and unsafe conditions pertaining to the operation of a heavy vehicle on public roadways.
Have knowledge and/or the ability to learn about occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to repeatedly lift, move, and carry heavy objects weighing seventy-five (75) pounds or more.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and to work independently in the absence of supervision.
Ability to be alert to traffic and aware of both safe and unsafe procedures and situations that may occur or be present while operating a Company vehicle.
