BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Direct Support Professional's (DSP) provide services to children or adults and their families with behavioral health concerns. Depending on the needs of the client, DSP's provide assistance with transportation, living skills, pre-employment and on the job training, health maintenance, personal care, respite and behavioral development. DSP's work in a number of settings including but not limited to schools, homes, community and clinics. The DSP works under the direction of the Direct Support Supervisor and therapist to develop specific goals for the client and to implement treatment methodologies addressing targeted behaviors listed in the client's treatment plan. DSP's will document in client's record interventions and behavioral observations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education: HS Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Work Experience: Minimum 4 years of combined education experience in behavioral health.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Must have valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.

Minimum Age: 21 Years

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide training to individuals with developmental disabilities in the areas of self-care, communication, self-direction, independent living, mobility and learning as directed by the Individual Service Plan (ISP) in order to enhance each individual's skill development, health, freedom, and personal dignity.

2. Supervise individuals during meals by serving family style and eating with residents.

3. Assist individuals during in=house activities by conducting therapeutic activities, such as physical exercises, occupational arts and crafts and recreational games.

4. Train and support individuals in daily tasks, such as cleaning of living areas, personal laundry responsibilities, meal preparation, and community outings.

5. Report the development of individuals by observing and documenting individual health care issues.

6. Maintain a clean and orderly home environment by performing general cleaning duties.

7. When properly authorized and certified, supervise individuals in taking medications as prescribed by the physician.

8. Adhere to confidentiality guidelines, as outlined by organization policy and HIPAA regulations.

9. Attend Certified Habilitation Aide classes upon employment and meet training requirements in accordance with current applicable Federal, State and local standards, as well as organizational policies and procedures.

10. Other duties as assigned
