Job Description

Cybersecurity is an integral part of our SVB culture, and as a growing financial institution, it's vital that we all play our part in keeping customers' data secure. We're looking for a cyber professional inherently driven and fascinated by the art and science of cyber defense. We will arm you with the very best tools and tech so that you can deliver top notch results. As the Director of Security Engineering, you'll be enthused by getting stuck into various security sector and data related projects, as well as the chance to work with people from a range of disciplines, and colleagues and clients at every level.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead Security Engineering Operations inclusive of network security, endpoint security, and cloud security.
  • Develop and execute Security Engineering Operations strategies and roadmaps.
  • Manage and lead team as well as mentoring junior and intermediate level engineers.
  • Manage resources and capacity plan to ensure optimal operations and support; eliminate key person dependency.
  • Be responsible foroverall planning, direction and oversight of Security Engineer Operations projects, products, services or functions.
  • Lead all aspects of Security Engineering Operations and drive maturity of delivery across the team.
  • Partner with 1st line and 2nd line risk teams to support risks assessment, prepare response, and identify plan/timeline for remediation.
  • Partner with Internal Audit to support any testing and audit activities required Security Engineering Operations participation.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team, and other key partners (i.e. Technology, Info Security, HR, Finance, Data Stewards etc.) to track, analyze and report our performance against established metrics and OKRs.
  • Oversee operational adherence to control frameworks, drive response to audit requests.
  • Identify alternative security strategies to address organizational security operations objectives.
  • Stay up to date on new security tools & techniques in the information security space.
  • Partner with other GSO teams and other technology teams to enhance security controls and capabilities.
  • Manage, build, and maintain positive relationships and processes across GSO teams, technology partners, global architecture, engineering and operations teams.
  • Solve issues at scale through technology solutions, design enhancements, process optimizations and automation.

Education & Experience:

Required:
  • 12 years of work experience with a bachelor's degree; 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA/JD/MD); or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred:

  • Experience working with distributed teams in the financial sector
  • Deep understanding of security best practices encompassing operations, engineering and architecture
  • A crisp and passionate communicator with the ability to simplify, communicate, and influence leaders and colleagues across the organization
  • Ability to deescalate conflict, shows empathy and concern for others' viewpoints and opinions
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Familiar with government security standards and regulations including GLBA, SOX, PCI, COBIT, ITIL
  • Familiar with various security architectures and methodologies (Defense in Depth, Kill-Chain, NIST, Critical Controls, OWASP, etc.)
  • Aware of technology and industry trends in order to introduce industry leading practices and technologies to the bank and align the specific technologies identified with the relevant business capabilities they support
  • Develop cyber technology strategies and roadmaps aligned to standards and controls
  • Work with Cybersecurity and other technology teams to enhance security controls and capabilities
  • Leading a team of engineers, providing cybersecurity technical leadership
  • Create efficiency within the organization by identifying opportunities for continuous improvements and automation
  • Manage, build, and maintain positive relationships and processes with technical and non-technical partners
  • Solve issues at scale through technology solutions, design enhancements, process optimizations and automation
  • Assess and articulate inherent and residual risk
  • Experience managing 3rd party vendors and contractors
  • Capable of discerning how and what to escalate, and how to communicate effectively across groups and teams, even when objectives, opinions, or viewpoints may be misaligned or in conflict
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy while seeking common interests, effective problem and conflict resolution skills

Certifications:
  • CISSP, CCSP, AWS
