About the position: Job Title: Big Data Engineer - Linux Environment Location: 100% REMOTE Long Term Contract Interview by video This is a Big Data Database Engineer role (NOT an analyst) Must have the highlighted skills below in a Linux environment (NOT windows) Mid Level Big Data Database Engineer in NIX environment Qualifications: Experience and Education (minimums) Bachelor's Degree of equivalent experience, Master's Degree preferred. 5+ years' progressive experience managing complex computing systems. Experience in design or development of distributed large-scale systems involving software, hardware, network and process components. Experience working with both agile and plan-driven development processes such as Scrums, Agile Development, Extreme Programming and the Rational Unified Process. Experience working with large-scale system engineering management processes including configuration management and change control processes. 1+ years' experience designing NoSQl/ Big Data environments such as Hadoop, MongoDB and Cassandra preferred. 1+ years' experience designing open-source messaging solutions such as RabbitMQ or ActiveMQ preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate system capabilities by preparing thorough and articulate documentation as well as lead or participate in formal presentations. Knowledge of computer internal architecture and design to include working knowledge of specific details and design of some variants of the NIX based operating systems. Understanding of the requirements and interface development, functional architecture and software design and software implementation of large-scale distributes software infrastructures. Ability to act as technical expert, track technology trends and to provide sound basis and reasoning for recommending technology paths. Ability to mentor or direct others in their technology evaluations. Ability to design, improve and operationalize complex datastores. Ability to participate in a 24/7 on call rotation. Ability to travel when necessary.
