Duration 05/17/2021 to 12/31/2021Shift Starts at 8AM8 hours per day, 40 hours per weekLocation Berkeley, California 94710Description:DEPARTMENT/TEAM DESCRIPTIONThe Health, Safety, Environment, and Security Department is responsible for establishing policies and procedures that safeguard the Bayer Berkeley site, its workforce, and the surrounding community.POSITION SUMMARYThe HSES Specialist will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with site safety and environmental policies and procedures. The role will advise stakeholders in proper occupational safety measures and ensure that relevant records are maintained to document regulatory compliance.POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES•Execute continuous improvement initiatives to ensure ongoing compliance with the site's occupational safety programs, including:o Confined Space Entryo Fall Protectiono Hazard Communicationo Lockout-Tagouto Personal Protective Equipmento Respiratory Protectiono Chemical Hygiene•Conduct periodic workplace audits to identify and correct at-risk conditions, including manufacturing, laboratory, stormwater, and hazardous waste storage areas.•Support employees and managers in conducting Job Safety Assessments, Personal Protective Equipment assessments, energy control procedure inspections, and safe work permitting.•Routinely inspect safety equipment and calibrate industrial hygiene instruments.•Support maintenance of documentation to support workplace safety programs (e.g., training records, inspection records, safe work permits, etc.).•Conduct safety trainings utilizing existing training materials.•Support investigations of minor safety incidents to ensure that root causes are identified, and corrective actions are identified.•Perform other job-related duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCESEducation Requirement(s):•BS degree in Science, Engineering, or related disciplineSkill & Competency Requirements:•At least 2 years of experience in a relevant occupational health and safety function•Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and their application.•Ability to work independently•Effective verbal and written communication skills•Effective interpersonal skills dealing with people in a variety of functions; ability to build relationships and partnerships within the organizationPreferences:•Associate Safety Professional (ASP); or•Certified Safety Professional (CSP)Additional Information Why is this position open? Growth on the team, turn over, skills gap? Our site is growing and we need additional personnel to handle the increased workload.•Location of this role site or remote? Hybrid; must be local with ability to come to site up to 5 days per week but can likely work remotely a few days per week.•What is a day like in this role?
