Position Overview:The Console Operator is responsible for the prompt and courteous completion of day-to-day tasks at the Switchboard including monitoring security and engineering alarms. The position answers the PBX attendant console, routes calls, communicates emergency codes, pages and coordinates communication using dispatching system. The Console Operator also assists as directed in the training of new staff, paging duties, on call lists, procedure changes, monitoring and responding to alarms and other items that affect the daily workflow of the hospital.Scope:Reporting to the Manager of Security and PBX, the position interfaces with virtually all departments at MPHS. Key contacts are security, information desk, employees, physician, patients and visitors. The operator interacts with the console in addition to Honeywell fire alarm, C-CURE Security system, HUGGs, Siemens fire alarm system, and multiple paging and dispatching systems. Console operators also page all emergencies and serve the communications link for disasters.Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Switchboard experience or equivalent in customer service
Preferred experience in a hospital setting
Familiarity with telephone set keypads.
Proficient with computer, including outlook, Epic and general computer functions
Ability to sit at PBX console for at least two hour periods.
Must be able to perform repetitive keyboard strokes at console and PC.
Ability to use small motor hand skills and press multiple keys in rapid succession with minimal effort.
Clear speaking voice and ability to hear calls or alarms.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Must be able to work flexible hours and perform in a stressful environment
