You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook.ResponsibilitiesThe Certified Tumor Registrar performs case finding, abstracting, and quality control of all reportable neoplasms, according to local, state, and national guidelines. Completes abstracts (case summaries) that are submitted to the California Cancer Registry and National Cancer Data Base. Assists with compliance of all requirements of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), Commission on Cancer (CoC), California State Cancer Registry and national level reporting agencies as required1.1 Identify reportable neoplasms. Review and abstract information from patient medical records (including outside records) including demographic characteristics, history of neoplasm/injury, diagnostic procedures, final diagnosis, stage, extent of disease and treatment.1.2 Code and enter into the database: topography, morphology, treatment, stage and other required information in compliance with standards set by the American College of Surgeons, the California Cancer Registry, National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) and departmental standards.1.3 Obtain on-going follow up information to include medical status from patient medical records, letters or phone calls to provide end results information. Perform clerical functions of follow up as needed.1.4 Organize, enter and maintain patient computer data to ensure conformance to tumor registry operational standards and to meet the needs of the users of registry data. Coordinate/collaborate with physicians to support research and information.1.5 Participate in educational, community outreach and other activities of the Mercy Cancer Institute to facilitate compliance with accrediting agencies and facility requirements.1.6 Facilitates, prepares, and distributes cancer conference and cancer committee conference notices to hospital departments and physicians as required. Assist in the preparation/distribution of material for Cancer Center programs and events.1.7 Assist with special projects as required.QualificationsREQUIRES:A minimum of 2+ years of cancer registry experience in a team-oriented collaborative environment (required).

High School Diploma or GED (required).

Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) is required.

Special skills required include: ability to create, manage and enhance customer and vendor relationships; high level self-motivation and direction with attention to detail; ability to work in a complex and matrixed team environment; multi-tasking, prioritization and time management techniques; and strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact with various client groups

Working knowledge of ICD-O coding, AJCC Staging, Standards for Oncology Registry Entry (STORE) Manuals & SEER Staging and Multiple Primary & Histology coding required. Experience with cancer registry software or electronic record-keeping systems. Familiarity with oncology treatment guidelines and practices. Excellent organizational skills with good follow through, investigative/analytic skills with detail orientation. Good verbal and written communications skills.

PREFERS:Associates Degree Program or NCRA Certificate Program strongly preferred.

Abstracting experience within California CoC facilities. (preferred)
