The Associated Students of California State University, Chico is recruiting for Accounting Technician I - Cashiering in the Financial Services Office. This is a full-time, full-year (2080 hours), non-exempt position. The pay rate for this position begins at $14.53/hr. The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm. The schedule is subject to change based on business needs.

The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU,Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. The AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN I - CASHIERING

SUMMARY

Under general supervision to perform a variety of entry-level accounting and financial record keeping assignments and to be responsible for the daily operations of the Cashiering department in the Associated Students Financial Services Office; and to do related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Responsible for the daily operations of the cash room, including: proper receiving, counting, disbursing and accounting for large sums of currency and coin.

· Direct the work of student employees. May participate in the selection process and provide performance feedback to the direct supervisor.

· Computes and reconciles daily receipts and prepares bank deposits ensuring accuracy.

· Prepares receipts and other documents and enters data into accounting software.

· Prepares multiple cash register advance bags and daily cash drawers for business.

· Implements proper security and internal control procedures over cash handling.

· Performs daily cash count, rolls coin and bundles currency bills.

· Prepares petty cash requests and initiates reimbursement.

· Performs monthly, quarterly and annual general ledger account reconciliations; analyzes and researches discrepancies and prepares adjusting journal entries.

· Performs annual audit assignments, preparing reconciliations and working papers for auditors in specified formats.

· Other financial record keeping duties may be assigned.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a typical office environment with prolonged periods of work on a computer and regular contact with others. Participation in various activities, events, meetings and/or retreats on or off campus which may include evenings and/or weekends may be required.

Sit for extended periods; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; continuous reaching and extending of hands and arms in many directions; kneeling and stooping; lifting and moving objects weighing up to 40 lbs.; verbal and written communication.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

· Knowledge of basic principles, methods, and practices of accounting, cash handling, and financial record keeping.

· Ability to operate a 10-key calculator with speed and accuracy.

· Ability to make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.

· Beginner knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel and Word.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

· One (1) year of full-time or part-time equivalent cash handling, bookkeeping and/or account reconciliation.
