POSITION: Laboratory Research Technician

Part-Time (20-25 hours per week) / Non-Benefited / Hourly / Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Regenerative Ag Initiative. The majority of work time will be on the Chico State campus (Plumas Hall) with some time spent at the University Farm (soil processing facility) and other offsite locations.

COMPENSATION: $20.00 per hour

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position will lead laboratory operations and support research efforts associated with the Regenerative Agriculture Demonstration (RAD) Lab. The RAD Lab is a growing soil analytical facility focusing on data development and assessment of the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of soil health. This staff member will work directly with RAI Leadership and faculty affiliates to lead analysis and lab operation. Tasks will focus on safe efficient lab operation, QA/QC, equipment maintenance, purchasing equipment/supplies, data handling, storage & documentation, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Experience and proficiency with laboratory procedures and equipment operation, ability to work independently and lead small groups, verbal and written communication skills, willingness to learn, and ability to function in dynamic work environments. The ability to communicate with, supervise, train, and mentor student interns and workers is an important aspect of this position. Must be able to take direction, work well in group settings, and maintain a positive and professional work environment. Must have the capacity/ability/willingness to do field work in the collection and processing of soil samples under the direction of a supervisor. In addition, the candidate must possess a valid California Drivers License and good driving record. Participation in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program (driving record) will be required upon hire.
