Receive, review and process all benefit enrollment/change forms to determine employee, retiree, COBRA, eligibility and ensure timely enrollment/change in applicable benefit programs
Conduct benefit orientations to new employees and counsel employees who have benefit questions and/or concerns
Assist in coordinating the annual benefits open enrollment
Provide assistance to faculty, staff, and retirees with benefit related issues and, when appropriate, referring to the designated benefits broker or to the customer service departments of the provider/insurer
Process premium payments received from faculty and staff that are on leave and payments received by retirees for health and life insurance
Monthly reconciliation of benefit discrepancies as reported by Claremont University Consortium’s Financial Services Department
When appropriate, notify faculty, staff, and retirees of benefit plan changes and other factors that may affect the benefit offerings
Correspond with faculty, staff, retirees, brokers, insurers/providers, regarding issues of eligibility, coverage, and document processing
Demonstrate effective problem solving techniques by providing complex, confidential information to faculty, staff, retirees, beneficiaries, outside agencies and providers to resolve matters that may affect eligibility and/or coverage
Coordinates with staff members, other offices, and the colleges responsible for initiating documents to correct errors and resolve discrepancies
Run reports or collects data for reporting and auditing purposes
Provides backup to other staff members as required
Exhibit professional conduct at all times and strives to uphold and promote the mission of Claremont University Consortium through outstanding customer service to The Claremont College’s faculty, staff, and retirees
Required Education
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High school diploma with additional courses and training or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability
Required Experience
Two to three years of benefits administration experience in a business office setting
Required Knowledge and Critical Skills
Knowledge of employer sponsored health and welfare benefit plans, rules and regulations pertaining to the plans, COBRA, ERISA, and Medicare
Oral and written communication skills, including Spanish
Ability to interact professionally with a diverse college community
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Knowledge of policies and procedures
Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
Exercise sound judgment in administration decisions
Working knowledge of automated payroll systems and HRIS
Work Schedule
The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
