Under the general direction of the Deputy and Assistant Chief Information Security Officers, the Information Security Consultants will work with assigned campus departments (Units) to ensure their local information security programs are aligned with our goals and objectives, support information security activities within the Unit, and serve as the main interface between the Unit and the central Information Security Office (ISO).

RESPONSIBILITIESt

Following standardized methodologies, the Information Security Consultant conducts information security assessments, prepares/review risk treatment and security plans, and actively supports the Unit’s efforts to manage cyber risks and improve its information security posture. The Information Security Consultant serves as an advisor/consultant to Unit stakeholders on cyber risks and security remediation strategies.t

The Information Security Consultant will lead meetings within their assigned Units and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. The Information Security Consultant facilitates the flow of information between their assigned Units and the ISO and reports on security risks and control effectiveness to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)t

Assists assigned Units with the implementation of UC¿s information security policies and standards. Promote awareness and education of security policies and guidelines; serve as primary contact for monitoring of information security policy implementation. Keeps the ISO abreast of all information security policy compliance challenges faced by assigned Unitst

Assist the Unit in the development and maintenance of an inventory of sensitive and critical information assets. Facilitates the protection of institutional data collected in accordance with policies.t

Aid with selection and development of security solutions and services.t

Participate in audit activitiest

Prepare and review system security architecture designs.t

Regularly communicate with Unit stakeholders on security related issues, including appraising them of relevant security risks and possible risk mitigation. Facilities communications between the Unit and ISO.t

Periodically report to the CISO on the Unit’s security status and compliance with relevant policies and standards.t

Plan and conduct security assessments within assigned Unitst

Verify that security controls are implemented and document deficienciest

Consult with CISO and Unit stakeholders to determine if the level of risk is within acceptable limitst

Recommend required actions to correct deficienciest

Provide continuous monitoring to confirm that the level of risk is within acceptable limitst

Coordinates Unit responses to information security assessmentst

Draft information security risk assessment reports

REQUIRED SKILLSt

Bachelor’s degreet

Understanding of cyber security technology, solutions and processest

2-5 years of consulting experiencet

Experience managing multiple projectst

Excellent analytical skillst

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to tailor and build effective, productive working relationships with across all levels of the organization with the appropriate degree of culture awareness and sensitivityt

Experience writing and providing detailed status reportst

2-5 years¿ experience in information security and/or information risk management in a large organizationt

Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of senior management.t

Ability to create effective cross-functional and cross-business teams.t

Strong project management skills
