Your Role The Enterprise Disaster Recovery team is responsible for designing and delivering disaster recovery solutions that meet Blue Shield of California's recovery time and recovery point objectives for all critical business systems hosted at Blue Shield's colocation data centers, and is accountable for working with vendors and vendor management organizations to ensure the same is true for all critical business systems hosted with 3rd party and/or cloud service providers. The Disaster Recovery Engineer will report to the Senior Manager, IT Operational Readiness and Enterprise Disaster Recovery. In this role you will consult on contract reviews, perform scheduling, planning, coordinating, implementing and testing (exercises) disaster recovery solutions, monitoring issues, respond to internal and external audits, help define strategy and roadmap to align with changing business Disaster Recovery needs, maintain accurate and complete disaster recovery plans and related collateral and support the enterprise risk compliance and business continuity programs.

Your Work In this role, you will:
  • Provide guidance and expertise on regulations (CMS, DMHC, BlueCard, etc.) and translate them into Disaster Recovery requirements for implementation into Operational programs.
  • Research, analyze and make recommendations for hardware, firmware, software, and other related infrastructure system standards and automate configuration and testing to improve Disaster Recovery posture and align with Technology Lifecycle Management.
  • Provide technical expertise, consultation, training, and advisory services on a full range of DR matters including backup and recovery strategies, plans, tests, audit reviews to assess availability vulnerabilities and recommend solutions to further evolve DR best practices.
  • Advance the development and execution of the Disaster Recovery Charter, Strategy, Roadmap, Best Practices, Risk Logs, and manage internal and external audits and inquiries.
  • Provide guidance to improve use, access, and security of Disaster Recovery document repository sites Infrastructure systems monitoring, troubleshooting, performance/tuning, and security and patch functions.
  • Maintain MIR3 notifications and periodically test.
  • Participate and coordinate Disaster Recovery exercises for both On-Prem and third-party solutions.
  • Provide consulting services for third-party contract management, representing Blue Shield of California Disaster Recovery Standards.
  • Maintain existing Disaster Recovery documentation.
  • Participate in Change Management and perform relative CMDB updates.

Your Knowledge and Experience
  • Requires a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Requires at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Requires at least 7 years of project management experience
  • Requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in coordinating and managing DR Drills for hosted and 3rd party hosted systems
  • Requires a CBCP certification; MBCP certification preferred
  • Requires a PMP certification
