Business Intelligence Analyst and Developer

Job Details/Scope: Reporting to the Manager of Operations Analytics, develops, maintains, and manages advanced reporting, analytics, dashboards and other business intelligence (BI) solutions to support business partner initiatives. Performs and documents data analysis, data validation, and data mapping/design, including definitions. Creates tools to store associated data within the organization to allow end-user reporting and analysis. This position will be accountable for facilitating cross-functional design sessions and creating detailed design deliverables and making recommendations to Leadership. This role will potentially support multiple strategic projects.

Key Responsibilities: The

BI Developer is responsible for the following:

  • Is a trusted adviser to leadership, senior managers, project managers, and key stakeholders. Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to ensure data can be converted into information to make decisions
  • Works with the management team to suggest operational recommendations based on insights, partners with business areas to create mutual understanding of goals and business drivers, shows how data and analytics can solve current and future challenges
  • Measures the organization’s efficiency and overall performance
  • Designs and implements strategies to improve efficiency, identify opportunities for savings, and drive quality improvement
  • Leads/coordinates the design and implementation of reports that integrate data from multiple sources, including design of reporting systems and standardization of metrics and formats across departments and functional areas
  • Develop impact analysis (tying actions to results across teams)
  • Assist with creation and update of metrics across teams (how do we know we are successful)
  • Provides coordination and oversight of peer review of accuracy, completeness and report/application/system design and implementation
  • Assesses business risks relating to reporting design and production. Develops and implements plans to mitigate risks
  • Functions as facilitator and/or mentor for data reporting projects, teams, and task forces
  • Supplies consultative advice to cross-functional analytics teams and business units regarding standard business rules and algorithms
  • Coordinates interaction between data analysis teams and support functions including information systems, provider relations and medical management
  • Performs exploratory analysis of deep and complex data to understand drivers of business activity, detect anomalies, and root causality
  • Develops models to help the organization predict outcomes, reduce operational defects, and improve member experience
  • Troubleshoots production issues with corporate data assets, works with cross functional IT teams to understand and prioritize fixes
  • Develops reports and visualizations from data that translate data into consumable, actionable insights
  • Tracks the development of new processes utilizing SDLC and Agile methodology
  • Creates and maintains clear, precise, and accurate documentation (Desk Level Procedures, Business Requirements, Technical Design Documents, etc.)

Skills and Qualifications

Requires:
  • Bachelor’s degree required or 7 years of experience; Masters preferred
  • A solid understanding of SQL, rational databases, normalization, dimensional models, query tuning
  • Proficiency in use of query and reporting analysis tools
  • Ability to create complex analytic data sets using procedural languages and software tools (R, Python, SAS, Shell Scripting, etc.)
  • Extensive experience in developing, maintaining, and managing Tableau driven dashboards & analytics and working knowledge of Tableau administration/architecture.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, ShieldLink/SalesForce, Facets, JIRA, Visio, PowerBI
  • Great organization skills and ability to prioritize effectively while managing multiple assignments, deliverables, and responsibilities
  • Excellent written and verbal skills along with the ability to quickly create meaningful visuals and collateral, including executive presentations
  • Strong investigative talents, research skills, & data gathering and analytics

    Preferred:
  • Understanding of data science fundamentals (business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modeling, evaluation, and deployment)
  • Knowledge of general operations (call center, customer engagement, billing systems, claims processing, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local government guidelines/policies for payers (CMS, DHCS, DMHC, DOI, etc.)
  • Medical Billing / Coding / CCI
  • Experience in healthcare
