Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our IC, DoD, and civilian customers.

The Associate Director of the Software Tools and Assurance Department (STAD) is a technical management position that plays an essential role in influencing the adoption and integration of emerging technologies and methods for software intensive systems in the field of Aerospace.

This position is a hybrid work model and can can sit partially remotely, with some onsite work in El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Work closely with the Director in establishing organization's objectives and goals and communicates them to subordinates, management, and interfacing matrix organizations. Conducts organization's activities consistent with corporate policies/practices, goals, and objectives.
  • Participates with Software Engineering Subdivision (SES) management team in determining organization's structure and staff and supports resource needs. Participates in budget planning and allocation of resources.
  • Identifies and assigns sub-organization and staff functional responsibilities. Assigns and coordinates work activities within organization, monitors workload, progress, and schedules.
  • Seeks and identifies opportunities for additional and new business; assists higher management in the evaluation and pursuit of new opportunities.
  • Cooperates and communicates frequently with customer to coordinate and report work progress, issues, and results.
  • Conducts staff performance reviews and recommends performance improvement, career development, salary, and promotion actions; establishes staffing needs and recommends reassignments, training, transfers, and other staff deployments; assists other supervisors in evaluation, mentoring, and assignment of staff.
  • Technology functions/organizations: Plans, organizes, and manages work of research/development department conducting investigations, evaluations, experimentation, and related program support. Provides overall direction to department's technical programs and ensures department's capabilities are effectively applied to needs of customers programs.
  • Collaborates with SES and department staff to identify, develop, apply, and amplify software technologies and applicable commercial software engineering methods.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical field of study from a recognized institution
  • Strong technical skills, with and experience interfacing with geographically distributed teams
  • 10 or more years of experience in software development and 4 or more years of experience in a technical lead or management capacity
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent technical reputation, breadth of knowledge and track record of technical achievement in software engineering
  • Experience in building and leading cross-organizational teams, and managing remote staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop staff through mentoring and training
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a clearance.

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline from
  • a recognized institution
  • 15 or more years of progressively responsible professional engineering/scientific experience
  • Experience in ETG and the Program Office
  • Understanding of the Aerospace role and the guidelines for appropriate use of FFRDCs
  • Experience working directly in a government program office
  • Excellent personal technical reputation and a record of personal technical achievement in software engineering
  • Prior leadership role in an organization addressing software engineering disciplines
  • Management experience working with subordinate managers
  • Demonstrated ability to grow an organization in response to customer requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Experience developing staff career development plans, coaching and performance tracking, and aligning rewards/compensation with staff performance
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
