Job Summary The Vehicle Systems Division (VSD) sits at the center of the ideas and data behind current and future systems supplying innovative research and development; technical evaluations during the acquisition process; conceptual and detailed design; assembly, integration, and test; and operational support. Comprised primarily of highly-trained mechanical and aerospace engineers, VSD provides national expertise in the areas of vehicle engineering; guidance, navigation, and controls; robotics; electro-mechanical devices; embedded systems; fluid mechanics; propulsion; thermal control; orbital mechanics; mechanisms; structures; structural dynamics; and dynamic environments.The Embedded Control Systems Department (ECSD) performs independent verification and validation of flight software embedded within avionics systems aboard launch vehicles, spacecraft, and other space systems. Our multidisciplinary staff provides technical oversight throughout the flight software development process, from requirements definition to day-of-launch and on-orbit operations. We develop high-fidelity closed-loop hardware and software testbeds to test the software and assess its readiness for flight. In addition, we develop and test real-time embedded software for picosats, drones, and other emerging technologies. We are looking for engineers with experience in cloud-based processing, and deployment to help adapt the department's processes and products to available cloud-based computing resources both commercially and internally . This position represents a significant growth area for the department and the company as adaptation of commercial services is taking increased priority. This position will be a hybrid work model with remote consideration with some onsite work required in El Segundo, CA or Hill AFB, UT. What You'll Be Doing- The design and configuration services provided by this role will arrange Amazon Web Services (AWS) in support of specific mission objectives to establish and/or redeploy and refine operational configurations
- Primary duties in this role will be in the arrangement and configuration of cloud services such as serverless compute, using data triggers for auto-start of processing, auto-scaling of processing to match the data load, and precise monitoring and metrics surrounding performance and costs to manage cost-optimized performance in mission solutions
- This position fits within the organizational emphasis to adapt the most cost efficient and high-performance solutions to our most challenging customer problems.
- Conduct tests and perform analyses of software systems embedded within launch vehicles, spacecraft, picosats, and other mission-critical components of space systems
- Develop automation of testing and analysis tasks, leveraging cloud-based resources where possible
- Support flight software verification through requirements analyses, design and code peer reviews, and unit test inspections and analyses
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent
- Typically, 5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
- Typically, 5+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as Python, Java, C, or C# including object-oriented design
- Typically, 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS Lambda, SNS, SQS, Node, Python, Batch, etc.
- This position requirestheability to obtain and maintain a securityclearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
- Typically, 8+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
- Typically, 8+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as Python, Java, C, or C# including object-oriented design
- Typically, 8+ years of professional software development experience
- Typically, 8 years of experience in commercial cloud technology development
- DevSecOps experience within DoD Cloud Environments
- Broad background knowledge of IT topics including networking, encryption, storage devices/systems, operating system concepts
- Experience with software development processes and tools including compilers, IDEs, software engineering, coding standards, software metrics and code verification
- Experience installing and configuring operating systems like Redhat /CentOS, Debian/Ubuntu and Solaris SPARC/x86
- Ability to write, test, implement shell scripts to do system management tasks such as nightly cronjobs
- A current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government is highly desirable. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
