The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

The Acquisition Analysis and Information Department (AAID) applies innovative acquisition, systems engineering, and data engineering strategies and tools to address evolving needs and threats and to inform customer decisions. In this position, the candidate will aid the department in advancing its expertise and capabilities industrial base (IB) and supply chain (SC) data insights and impacts, applying digital and data engineering to enable enterprise integration. In this role, the candidate will collaborate on multi-disciplined teams and should be able to effectively communicate with all levels of corporate leadership. Primary customers include Corporate Offices, DOD, DOE (e.g., NNSA), NASA, and Intelligence Community (IC) agencies.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

What You'll Be Doing

As an Engineering Manager in AAID, you will provide leadership , planning and guidance to a high performing team in a new and growing section focused on providing data-driven resources to inform supply chain and industrial base decisions. You will work cooperatively with the AAID Director in supervising the operations and staffing of the department and in shaping its future.
  • Seek and identify opportunities for additional, expanded, and new projects and assist higher management in the evaluation and pursuit of new AAID opportunities
  • Collaborate with AAID and Acquisition Analysis and Planning (AAPS) leadership to establish organizational objectives and goals and communicate them to staff and interfacing matrix organizations
  • Conduct organization's activities consistent with corporate policies/practices, goals, and objectives
  • Set performance standards; assess sufficiency and quality of AAID's documentation, capabilities, and services
  • Cooperate and communicate frequently with customers to coordinate and report work progress, issues, and results
  • Conduct work performance within customers' standards and regulations
  • Participate in day-to-day technical task planning and issue resolution; coordinate work activities with counterparts and common-task participation organizations
  • Plan, lead, and/or participate in performing technical projects focused on acquisition, systems engineering, data engineering, digital engineering, and/or enterprise engineering with emphasis on supply chain, quality, and industrial base assessments
  • Develop and maintain strong and effective working relations within the AAPS Subdivision and with other Engineering and Technology Groups (ETG) organizations, internal and external customers, and contractors
  • Develop and execute strategic planning with management to establish and improve the organization's technical capabilities
  • Set and manage expectations to inspire staff with technical excellence and product delivery
  • Identify, select, and assign tasking to engineering personnel, monitor quality of work outputs; help mitigate technical, communication, and administrative challenges
  • Conduct staff performance reviews and recommend performance improvement, career development, salary, and promotion actions
  • Establish staffing needs and recommend reassignments, training, transfers, and other staff deployments
  • Assist other supervisors in evaluation and assignment of staff
  • Maintain technical currency in acquisition, systems engineering, and digital engineering practices

  • From a velocity perspective, the individual in this role will partner with others to reflect on existing technical and process expertise with the goal of improvements in efficiency and timeliness of data and knowledge.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

What You Need to be Successful

Bachelor's degree in in engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or a related STEM field

from an accredited institution
  • 8 or more years of increasingly responsible acquisition, systems engineering, and/or digital engineering experience
  • Previous project lead or management experience, preferably involving staffing, supervision, and assessment of direct reports and/or delivery of work products to the customer
  • Demonstrated experience in the formulation of technical task planning, developing and leading cross-functional teams, issue resolution, and orchestrating task balance across a team
  • Familiarity with National Security Space (NSS) space, launch, and/or ground systems and advanced space technologies, policies, and standards
  • Understanding of FFRDC role and working within its context
  • Strong relationship-building skills to enable frequent communication across a range of customers on defining projects and deliverables, building acquisition, systems engineering, and/or digital engineering capabilities based on user needs, as well as, growing and managing a high-performance team.
  • Strong interpersonal, organization, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple simultaneous tasks
  • Willingness to support tasks requiring occasional business travel
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance, issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • An advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or a related STEM field
  • Professional certification(s) in a related STEM field
  • Prior management experience
  • Current TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance
  • Experience as a customer-facing program office member as an Aerospace employee
  • Experience with industrial base, supply chain, and/or quality assessments for a major acquisition program
  • Proficiency with enterprise engineering tools which integrate supply chain/industrial base data
  • Familiarity with Aerospace policies and procedures, and demonstrated experience working within the Aerospace culture, especially orchestrating project among various Aerospace, customer, and contractor organizations
  • Exhibits a high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
  • Proficiency with Jira/Confluence and establishing workflows
  • Familiarity with programming using Python
  • Familiarity with visualization tools such as Tableau
