The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

The Astrodynamics Department performs a wide range of orbit design and analyses to shape the future of the U.S. space enterprise. We help our customers invent new capabilities and develop some of our nation's most critical space missions. We develop and employ modeling and simulation capabilities for rendezvous and proximity operations, formation flight, constellation design, coverage analysis, space debris environments, space protection tactics, novel applications in cislunar space, and more.

What You'll be Doing:
  • Lead teams of engineers and perform technical deep dives, trade studies, and assessments for multi-disciplinary technical leaders, Aerospace Program Office personnel, and external customers including defense and civil agencies, such as the U.S. Space Force, the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and others
  • Advise key stakeholders and government customers by performing a range of modeling, simulation, and analysis in the focus areas of constellation design and optimization, coverage analysis, conceptual mission design, orbital analysis, and enhancing the resilience of other mission areas in the space enterprise architecture
  • Develop and present timely and technically accurate briefings and reports that clearly communicate analysis results and provide recommended solutions, supporting critical decisions in collaboration with technical leads, management, and customers
  • Expand the department's analysis capabilities by advancing the evolution of analysis tools/workflows and by mentoring/training new analysts
  • Support the development and maturation of analysis software tools

What You Need to be Successful:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or other STEM-related discipline from an accredited university
  • Demonstrated progressively responsible professional or academic post-graduate engineering/scientific experience, to include
    • Working knowledge of Aerospace customers and industry partners
    • History of timely and impactful delivery of technical products in a business setting
    • Technical writing and presentations
    • Independent technical task execution and/or team leadership
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following computer languages/tools: C, C, Fortran, Java, Matlab, Python
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US Government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

How You Can Stand Out
  • Graduate degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or other STEM-related discipline from an accredited university
  • Current DoD TS/SCI security clearance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and mentor colleagues
  • Relevant experience with multi-domain mission operations, concept of operations development, or wargaming
  • Academic or professional experience in astrodynamics/orbital mechanics topics
  • Academic or professional experience in space-based modeling, simulation, and analysis, such as space mission analysis and design, algorithm design, and mathematical modeling
  • Academic or professional experience in advanced mathematical topics, such as optimization theory, game theory, statistical estimation, and numerical analysis
  • Academic or professional experience in modern software development, integration, and testing practices
  • Significant contribution to a substantial technical analytical or development project through its successful completion
  • Experience interfacing with program office personnel and government customers

Grade-Based Pay Range

(Min - Mid - Max)$67,573 - $117,940 - $168,307
