Job Summary

The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

The Reliability and Statistics Department (RSD) within SED provides our customers with reliability modeling and statistical analysis expertise, with a special focus on assessing the capabilities and replenishment needs of satellite constellations. As a member of RSD you will serve as a liaison to management and customer representatives and lead the production and delivery of work products by RSD and interdisciplinary teams.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Perform and lead interdisciplinary teams performing satellite reliability modeling and constellation-level risk and availability assessments
  • Represent RSD in working groups devoted to reliability and functional availability analysis
  • Promote RSD's capabilities to internal and external prospective customers
  • Identify issues, prioritize tasks, review work products, plan/execute budgets, and act as spokesperson for project teams to management/customers
  • Provide expert reliability consultation and review of contractor deliverables such as reliability predictions and FMECAs to support acquisition milestones
  • Advance the state of the art of space system reliability engineering through leadership and direct support of internal research and development activities

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • MS or equivalent degree from an accredited program in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related field of science or engineering
  • 8 years of technical experience related to satellite reliability engineering, 12 years required for L3
  • Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language (e.g. R, python, Matlab, C)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, organize, prioritize, and ensure timely completion of tasks and attention to detail
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • PhD degree from an accredited program in a related field
  • Experience in an engineering management or project leadership role
  • Direct experience with functional availability modeling and satellite lifetime prediction
  • Experience with survival analysis, design-of-experiments, and other statistical disciplines related to reliability engineering
  • Expertise in R and one or more reliability engineering tools (e.g. Windchill, Reliasoft products)
  • Expert-level proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
