Job Summary

The Technology Portfolio Manager, Discovery will serve as the primary manager of the three Innovation Lab (iLab) investment programs that promote ideation or low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) developments: Sabbaticals, Advanced Concepts, and University Partnership Program. The Sabbaticals program and the Advanced Concepts Program enable, through different approaches, ideation for disruptive or transformative solutions to critical corporate or enterprise problems. The University Partnership Program is executed in partnership with University Relations & Recruiting (UR&R) to drive collaborations with university partners to support research and development activities that align with corporate projects or initiatives.

The Innovation Lab (iLab) is a part of the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and manages Research & Development (R&D) investment portfolios associated with bringing transformative or disruptive technologies to maturity. iLab also provides services, platforms, and programs that enable collaboration and impactful innovation across the corporation. We are seeking a creative and dynamic Technology Portfolio Manager to manage iLab's ideation technical investment portfolio.

This is a full-time position in a hybrid work model with locations available in El Segundo, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; or Chantilly, VA.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Work with the iLab management team to define portfolio strategy, lines of effort, and performance measurement metrics
  • Manage portfolio execution to ensure lines of effort are consistent portfolio definition and metrics
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of portfolio performance for iLab, OCTO, and corporate management
  • Coordinate marketing and messaging of portfolio highlights for internal and external audience consulting
  • Work in partnership with research line leads to define lifecycle of each research line
  • Work in partnership with program office advisors to ensure and promote connectivity between lines of effort and corporate and/or customer needs
  • Work in partnership with UR&R and University sponsors to define university engagement strategies and to administer execution of the research aspects of those strategies
  • Mentoring corporation staff to adopt and implement innovation and collaboration processes

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a STEM field or equivalent
  • Typically, (12) years of applicable professional or educational experience is required
  • Experience in the space systems field
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration with academic institutions
  • Experience with project, program, or portfolio management
  • Exceptional ability to mentor, create teams-of-teams, and collaborate
  • Ability to adjust strategy to enable cross-corporation partnerships
  • Ability to translate detailed technical information to relatable material for a broader audience
  • Comfort with ambiguity, and ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving internal corporate and customer environment
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to coach others
  • Willingness to travel (approx. once/month) and to work off-business hours to support customer needs
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Ph.D. in a STEM field or equivalent
  • Direct experience conducting and managing R&D portfolios
  • Direct experience in creating research and development agreements with US Government, academic, and/or commercial organizations
  • Experience with Aerospace mission assurance functions, FFRDC operations, and company business processes
  • Proven experience in managing dynamic budgets and project allocations
  • Broad knowledge of Aerospace support to customers

Grade-Based Pay Range

(Min - Mid - Max)$117,027 - $192,281 - $267,534
