JOB OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of the UCSF Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research (LaCMER) Director of Education, the Academic Program Coordinator will be responsible for the daily implementation of the educational pipeline program in grades 7-12 in identified sites. The responsibilities include planning, initiating, coordinating and general management of the program components during the school year and the summer session. Program components include working closely with middle and high school educators and administration in implementing the programs curriculum; planning and scheduling program activities such as health professional guest speakers, study trips to four-year universities, parent and student workshops, summer programs; and the recruitment, admissions, and selection process of program students.
Additionally, the Academic Program Coordinator would be responsible for implementing systems and procedures to track and increase the academic achievement of participating students and to provide training to parents so that they can do the same with their children. Systems include the implementation of an Academic Intervention Program, recruitment of college students as tutors for math and science subject areas; recruitment of school counseling interns from local graduate programs; tracking and monitoring of grades; implementation of study skills workshops; and meeting with parents as part of a multi-disciplinary task force working together in the development of an individual academic plan for their students who may be in academic jeopardy.

The UCSF Education Program (MEP) offers undergraduate and postgraduate training programs with particular emphasis on primary care clinical disciplines. The UCSF Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research (LaCMER) is a K-16 health careers pathway program designed to increase the diversity of health professionals in the Central Valley. The program provides an academically rigorous curriculum that prepares K-16 students to become competitive applicants to four-year colleges and universities and health profession schools across the country.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, student services, public health or related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Valid California drivers license
Three years of experience in developing or writing academic curriculum
Knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation urban youth
Experience with planning and coordinating workshops and orientations in support of academic programs
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts
Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status
Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in education or educational counseling of K-12 students and / or equivalent experience / training
Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential (state of California)
Strong knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population
Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies
Knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives
Strong knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements
Significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers
Experience in developing and writing curriculum
