Friant Water Authority is seeking a Senior Engineer who will play an instrumental role in imagining and realizing the future of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess a proven ability to work with a wide range of disciplines connected with the successful completion of projects.

This role reports directly to the COO and will be engaged in the planning, designing, maintenance, operations and construction of the Friant-Kern Canal and related facilities. Friant Water Authority is a public agency formed by its members under California law to operate and maintain the Friant-Kern Canal. Friant represents members in federal or state policy, political, and operational decisions that could affect the Friant Division's water supply.

The organization headquarters and primary reporting office for this position is located in Lindsay, CA.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in water facilities engineering and water resource management.

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, agricultural engineering or a related engineering field. Masters/Advanced degree would enhance the opportunity.

Certification: Valid certificate of registration as a professional civil, mechanical or agricultural engineer in the state of California required.

Knowledge and application of water control facilities design, construction cost estimating, project controls/scheduling, water resources planning, documentation, engineering/construction principles, techniques, materials, applications, and practices required.

License: Must possess a valid California Class C driver license and have a satisfactory driving record acceptable and approved by Friant's insurance company.

Strong critical thinking and reasoning skills to develop effective solutions.

Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with FWA staff, member agencies, and other local, state and federal agencies in water resource and engineering matters.

Ability to communicate both in written and oral form effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Ability to understand, apply, and follow health and safety regulations as required.

Leadership experience a plus.

Primary Responsibilities

Project Administration

Conducts Studies and Investigations

Oversight and management of work performed by engineering consultants and construction contractors

Planning and Quality Control for facilities maintenance and new projects

Develops training

Develops programs and establishes standards

Reporting and Documentation

Consulting and Advising

Provides Technical Support

Special Projects as assigned

Work Environment

The Senior Engineer role is a management level position that requires leadership and is afforded the flexibility to complete his/her job duties.

Work time is spent inside in an office environment as well as field duties, which could include (but may not be limited to) climbing stairs, ladders, and on/over uneven surfaces; being in enclosed spaces; and being on open, elevated structures.

Be able to lift up to 35 lbs. on a routine basis.

Flexibility in schedule is needed, as at times there may be irregular or extended work hours.

Occasional travel (possibly for one or more nights) representing Friant at a variety of meetings and functions as required.

Salary and Benefits

Compensation: Annual salary is up to $120,000 depending on qualifications
