  • The Senior Database Administrator provides subject matter level expertise and organizational leadership regarding on time delivery of database services to Business Units and Development teams, concerning the enterprise's mission critical database environments, as defined by the Information Technology department's Service Level Agreements.
  • The Senior Database Administrator must function in a fast-paced collaborative team environment, be adaptable to many changing processes, and technology related to various database environments.
  • The Senior Database Administrator delivers assessment of new technologies and provides Information Technology with enterprise-level tactical execution, to improve efficiency, scalability, delivery of innovative products in regards to the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the enterprise.

Responsibilities:
  • Participate in on-call support rotation for a 24x7, client-facing production
  • Work closely with IT teams and business units to facilitate design, installation and configuration of large and complex OLTP, OLAP, and SSRS environments with high-availability and offsite disaster recovery, utilizing Microsoft Clustering & Always On, fault tolerant SAN storage for databases, as well as backups.
  • Manage all aspects of database administration in a Windows Server stand-alone and clustered environment from developing standard operating procedures, backup recovery architecture, environmental optimization & maintenance, service packs\hotfixes installation, along with issue remediation and risk mitigation.
  • Responsible for capacity management and planning of database resources.
  • Responsible for maintaining the security integrity of database services and systems, which support the various operating units of the enterprise.
  • Implement systems for monitoring database jobs and system activity, and profiling for load and performance bottlenecks.
  • Assist with audits, certification, and maintain compliance with requirements.
  • Follow ITIL best practices, including Change Management, Incident Management and Problem Management.
  • Responsible for working directly with development teams to deploy code changes to staging and production environments, as requested through the change management framework.

Required skills and abilities:
  • Minimum 10 years of operational database administrator experience at an enterprise level, with multiple versions of Microsoft SQL Server, in a highly transactional OLTP & OLAP environment, and preferably in a hosting and/or corporate 24x7, highly available environment.
  • Experience with installing and supporting a scaled out Reporting Services environment (SSRS).
  • Experience with developing and administrating data flow processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory, and proper disk configurations for database performance.
  • Knowledge of managing and administrating MS Analysis Services and Tabular services.
  • Solid understanding of best practices for SQL Server administration.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of SQL Server engine internals, query execution plans, index management, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity in setting up actionable alerts to proactively manage systems with native Microsoft tools as well as third party applications, such as Idera.
  • In-depth hands on knowledge of Disaster Recovery, High Availability, Business Continuity strategies and architecture, such as Microsoft Windows Cluster, Always On, Backups, San replication\snapshots.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to be proactive, work well under tight deadlines, flexible hours, with limited direction.
  • Team player with strong intercommunication skills and the ability to provide clear documentation of production processes as necessary.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Optional skills:
  • MCDBA, MCITP-DBA, or MCSE certifications a plus.
  • Practical knowledge of Tableau server and Tableau Cloud.
  • Practical knowledge of DevOps concepts, strategies, and architecture.
  • Understanding of relational database design and concepts.
  • Expert skills in T/SQL and PowerShell scripting.
